with some trepidation grounded in past experiences, i started to update my basecamp and zumo mapping. must have downloaded all, or nearly all, of the 5GB update when it decides there has been an error and is unable to complete the install.

doesn't say what the error was, or save the data downloaded.

what a bunch of fucking useless cocks garmin are.

mouth, words, out of,my, took the............:D

Yep, I feel your pain as I've been there too. When it works, it's great but when it lets you down, it does it in spades

last three updates have been very problematic. i'm in no way computer illiterate, but i've struggled to get the maps updated, and also to reliably transfer multiple routes to the zumo.

conversely, my other satnav (GPSmap60CSx) running maps *obtained elsewhere* works fine.

Just the fact that they couldn't be arsed to explain that the latest upload was going to blow my unit's memory and need lots of dicking about to get to understand wht they's done and how to make it all ok told me exactly what they thought of us users.

I too am more than computer literate and it was all as frustrating as feck

Perhaps a rant is in order ...... ? Or a 'Hate Garmin' thread :)

Must admit I'm a huge fan of Garmin.. but they do seem to be going backwards in some respects.

They could do with some decent rivals.. (sit down you Tom Tom users...).

If only apple made a bike friendly sat nav.......

I'd think twice about that!

Only Apple maps
Only Apple POI's
Only toll roads on map which Apple get a kick-back
Only hotels approved by Apple
Only Apple approved fitting kits
No buttons
Can only link to IMacs not PC's

unlike apple, garmin's gps systems are entirely closed, and the hopeless fuckwads can't even get that right.

ps. it woudn't be Ltd. they're from california :)

If they're that bad stop whinging and buy a Tomtom

i've asked around and they seem useless too.

...and if you don't like the whinging, fuck off and post on someone else's thread

sounds great.

The OS maybe but the mapping can be obtained from various sources including some very good free stuff.

You took me too seriously (I thought the 2 smilies and the comment re where I had sent it from might have been a clue).

Sent from my MacBook Pro.

BUT I could have sent it from my 27" IMac or my ITouch or my IPad2. :D:D

Everything Garmin make is a bunch of shit. Their contempt for their customers is without peer.

Everything is made to the minimum possible spec.

I feel your pain, us mac users are used to higher standards in the operabilitity and robustness of our software. If you were a habitual windows user, it wouldn't seem so bad.

Why would garmin want to do that ? Or do you mean does the garmin software support it ?

i just thought that, unlike apple, garmin never intended the device to run 3rd party software.

sounds great.

+1 :thumb

One of the reasons I update nowt from Garmin, just leave it be and it all works just fine. Known too many people on too many occasions update their mapping and have countless problems. So what if there is a new bit of motorway or by-pass road ... the back roads and lanes don't change much ;)
