Anyone going? I'm thinking of doing a week or so trip enjoying the local roads and spending the weekend enjoying the event - can't decide whether to camp or hotel? Went a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Could enjoy the company if there are any interested parties.

Yes, me and a mate are going. We've booked it through World of BMW, so hotels and crossings etc., are all sorted for us. It's my first Euro trip, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Went with world of BMW a few years ago and couldn't fault the organisation. The hotels were superb. I'm tempted to do it again? Enjoy.:)

Could be tempted :augie

May be a bit late to book hotels though... just looked on bookings.com and not a lot left ...
Camping aint an option.

Going to get my better half busy on the phone tomorrow - she's German. Hopefully she may be able to source a reasonably priced hotel?

We've stayed a couple of times at Trifthof Garni, within walking distance of the show.... that's booked up, and nothing else coming up in Garmisch... ( funny how I spotted your thread and got the urge to visit again :Motomartin

Over to you :beerjug:

Not sure what you're suggesting Bryn?

Apart from one or two hotels at silly prices everywhere in walking distance of the event seems full up. Even speaking in the native language didn't sway things.:blast
Camping just outside the event is 7.50 euro for as many days as you want. This maybe the only way to go?

There are still places available on the World of BMW trip, if anyone is interested. I know it's not the cheapest way to do it, but this year they've added a 'shared room' rate for single travellers, which reduces the cost somewhat. The costs (from their site) are:

Shared Price – £699 (each)
Couple Price – £999 (for both, I think)
Single Price – £899

Not bad for a 7 night trip I thought. I went for the single price in the end though, 'cos I'm a miserable old git who values a bit of privacy. And I snore - loudly; I know, I've been told.

I had a look on the World of BMW site and found this

Rider Price: £1,099
Couple Price: £1,595

I suppose 1K aint bad but £1600 is out of my range

7.5 euro is cheaper than the above.... but I can't see Lyn wanting to camp ;)

I went last year and discovered that there are free buses to outlying hotels (caught one by mistake). We saw several and they were up to 15 miles away.
There should be something on the BMW Web site. Can highly recommend it, the organisation, catering facilities and entertainment are second to none.

Going...again

Yes, 2 of us heading out of Aberdeen....again:).... You will struggle to find hotel rooms by now for Saturday night...and probably Friday as as well. Usually dries up around early March...BUT the tenting sites are well arranged. Dont bother going with BMW UK arranged tours unless you are new to going abroad. These is easy countries to travel in. Just dont bother with the French motorways, German autobahns etc...stay on A roads and enjoy.

I'm in with Bryn & Casperfelix, we're staying in Oberammagau, I believe

Just sorting the hotel en-route:thumb2

I shall stay a few days longer, maybe nip over to the Dolomites............to luxuriate in one of my favourite hotels there or Austrian Tyrol, near Lienz............all dependant on the weather:cool:

Garmisch

I have been about 5 times.
Always camp on the site last year they started charging but only 2/3 euro.

Brilliant event well organised, last year very hot, been there in the rain and not so much fun.

Still thinking if i can sit on my k1300R for 750 miles.?

Did it on a RT last year so need a wee reccee with some miles on the R to see if i can.

Maybe see some GS,ers there.

Mort and I are toying with going over. Can anyone let me know how you book up the site next to the show ground....can't find it anywhere on their web site?

If that fails, has anyone tried the campsite Griesener Straße 4, 82491 Grainau? Not sure how far away it is from the show

Any help please?
