Garmisch BMW Motorrad Days 2011

Camping / Accomodation

Always worth dropping the local tourist office an email
[email protected]
Theyappear to co-ordinate a lot of the bookings for the weekend
Things that come up unavailable on booking.com can have vacancies via the tourist office

the down side is they want a slice for acting as the go between

Garmisch

No need to book the camping you just pay on arrival, only a few euros.

Really good event, ive been 5 or 6 times.

Probably be there this year on my K13R.

Oh you need to be up early for the hot showers.

Doing the night crossing on the Tuesday from harwich, riding through holland and Germany got diggs in lermoos Austria for the week, if any on traveling down wants some company :thumb2

I'm taking a bunch of mates there this year. First time at the event for all of us. Camping at the event and using hotels on the way back as we are taking in parts of Italy.

Would be great to meet up with some others for a beer while we are there. Either in the events tent or maybe in the town? Have to be honest, not having been there previously, it's all new to me :beerjug:

Hoping to get to Garmisch on the Thursday afternoon so we can pitch the tents as early as possible on-site.

Ok - so dont I feel like the big trip virgin!! This will be my first trip to Germany - so advice please? i was planning on not getting there until sometime on Friday - but is that too late??
also, not sure about best route and camping sites for the night before presumably a couple of hundred miles away????
As you can see, planning for this is in the early stages, so any help advice gratefully accepted!!! :beerjug:

Don't eat the salad:blast

If you're doing it in 2 days I'd use a hotel for the intermediate night and camp there @ Garmisch

I would arrive Thurs

Last year I turned up at the site = No-one could ever miss it ever !!!!

Got steered around to the camping side of the show ground

Paid my subs 7.5 yo yos for the whole weekend ( for me three nights )

You pitch your tent in the tent section fields and leave yer bike in the bike parking field ( I did it the uther way first of course then read the signs )
Some of the sections were all ready booked out so follow the instructions of the lads/helpers/marshalls ( they all speak a form of inglish just like me )
Good enough hot watered showers and drinkable water taps maybe not enough showers but there was an attendance of 20000 on saturday
Food and beer is good but a little pricey if yer a pig or a drunkard
There is a Lidl about 800 mts form the site and other shopping for the takeout drinkers
I thought it was fab, every bit of it - I went on me own and met loads of new friends
The weather was stunning raffle prize was a 1200gs se
top event and if your prepared to do a little detour on the way back - do the stella doo the following weekend in Bardonechia IT

I love the Hantanjoch which is about 1/2 an hour sw of garmisch also there is a lovely tootle to a hamlet called eng land which is just over the hill to the east of garmisch - but a hour or two to get to it as the hill is a mountain :D
Der yer know I might gu again this year - it was that good last year
I went there along the "hitlers road" ( deucth alpinestrasse) from Lake Constance did the meet then carried n to Bechesgarten where as usual it pissed it down, I have been there 3 times and weather has always been poor :(

Will there be many cancellations due to e.coli?

You live in Switzerland and don't recognise the Stelvio pass ? :blast

A nice ride for sure but better ridden in the other direction IMHO

I was thinking it was near Garmish;)

If any body is interested there is a few place left for the test rides but you need to book on line.

Will someone hoist a UKGSer flag as a meeting point at the camp site?:D

If anyone wants to meet up I'll be a fat, grey haired bloke on a GS:augie

It would be nice for the Tossers to meet up for a beer or salad on Saturday some time. If memory serves me there is a very large beer 'tent' on site (seats about 1,000!) which we could meet up in around lunchtime. Thoughts anyone?
