Gear Box Problem ?????

Hi all,

Seem to have a intermittent problem with my gears, it changes up fine and will change down from 6th to 5th with no problems.

The problem is when changing down from 5th the only way it will come down is by stopping and fiddling up and down on the side of the road!

I have just come back from Garmisch and it played all the way down but only once on the way back.

Any ideas before i rip the box out??????????????

check the linkage for free play and crap.

Did you find the problem before having to rip the gear box out?

I've just bought an 04 1200 (first GS) and have a similar problem. In between each downshift I have to tickle the gear lever up a few mm to sort of centre it I suppose, then it lets me - but it's a real pain! Only happens after the bike has warmed up though!

Sounds like the linkage require a bit of tlc
Dismantle and lubricate
Normal service will resume
the wonderful feeling of well being should wash all over you

Very strange , never happened to me .
Have you tried to contact BMW? It will be a good idea a mechanic to have a look at !

Yeah sorry to re-awaken an ancient thread, I be new 'ere and got a bit excited at seeing a similar problem.

I'm going to try giving the linkage a going over and see if that works. Cheers for now.
