gear box shine ?????

trying to get my gear box better looking, tried autosol to be honest it not touch it much:, any ideas very welcome.

Rob Farmer's pics always show beautifully clean engines and boxes - but he has access to a bead blaster. That seems to be the way to go.

I have tried various non-destructive methods without much success. I have a grit blaster but so far have resisted the temptation to fire things at the gearbox .

20 Scottish winters have left all the alloy a dull grey with salt tufts .

This is the next best thing to bead blasting. You need a small stainless brush and some ally cleaner.

Rob, my engine as cleaned up very nice using autosol but the gear box alloy is a different type and very hard to get clean.
