I the last few days my bike has become increasingly harder to down shift sometimes to the point I have to change up before down. I had a read of the forums, took off the link and cleaned and greased it.
I wondered if shortening this would help?

Just wondered if anyone had any pointers or a bmw friendly mechanic in the Exeter/Tiverton area or even someone who could come to mine and help for some beer tokens:jager

NO, Take off the gear lever and clean and grease the pivot!

There are two plastic top hat sections that go in from either side that it is supposed to swivel on.

They get compressed by corrosion and squash against the pivot pin making the gear lever stiff and difficult to get gearchanges

a common fault with an easy fix

Don't forget ththe pivot is secured with locktight and will require heating with a hot air gun before removing.
