Gear Change Problems

Hi guys, help please.

My GS if not ridden for three or four days, I'm finding that I'm unable to select 3rd gear. First and second no problem, and no probs changing second to first. After riding it about 600 metres I can get throw gear no probs but not before that.

Any ideas please before I take it to the garage and have to sell the kids!

She's done 38000 miles and FSH, gear linkage from pedal to box look ok.

take the linkage off,and make sure all is free,also check oil level in box,the filler is also the level ,when it starts to come back out its full.
hope the box isnt knackered

Slide the gearchange rod out of the frame and lube the rod and the lugs it locates into.
