Gear shift pro

I've just collected my GSA today and it has Gear Shift Pro. It works well enough but I was surprised at the amount of effort it takes to change gear. Definitely a very positive movement of the gear lever with a fair bit of force. At 4000 miles it may be that it is still tight but I expected the shifting to be with less effort. Can anyone advise if their's is the same please

I had it on my 14 GSA and as has been said make sure its calibrated properly at service otherwise it can be a bit "stiff"
I thought it worked well on the GSA but was blown away with how much better it is on the XR

And the GS LC does indeed have a slipper clutch

mine was always a bit stiff particularly going down the box
It always worked better if it was being ridden harder than a bimble
If it has just been serviced and has been on the software update thingy you will need to use the cliché on gear changes for 20 miles or so until it learns ( so a technician told me)

If the quick shifter is the same as the S1r, works best up the rev range and keep the throttle pinned, then its sweet as can be. If just tootling around use the clutch otherwise expect a clunk.

They shouldn't be handing the bike back to you without re calibrating it themselves ;)

I tried a 2015 GSA WC with it and didn't rate it, the RT WC with Proshift was night and day better

I agree with the posts above.
Works well at high revs and in higher gears. If you have a more "gentle" approach to riding, or you are often in "traffic". I'd forget it.

If this doesn't sound strange...Its an "essential option" when buying a new bike, but at £380 +labour ( nearly £500 spend) ? needs a bit of thought before adding as a post purchase upgrade to a 2014 bike. You might end up disappointed.

How does it compare to selling yours and getting a 2015 bike with it already fitted ?

Interesting comments so far. Changing when hard on the gas is very good. I find that when tootling around at town speeds the quick change gives very smooth shifts no clunking at all up or down. Just need to either have throttle on even if gently for upchanges and zero throttle down.
Cheers Simmo

Odd given that they share the same drive train............

I think it's something to do with the drivetrain geometery and shorter rear wheel travel on the RT models - seems smoother

I honestly didn't believe it, until I tried it and all the BMW mechanics said the same

Okay then,
So looking at upgrading the mini-me LC gs , to the LC mini-me GSA

Having tested the GSA without gear shift pro jiggery pokery thingummy bob
Its about 300 odd to the add list.
Im not a racing snake and very rarely take it off road, So is it worth it when i feel im not missing something I haven't tried ?
The same as this key-less farkle,
Dont get me started about having to pay for a paint colour

Gear shift pro is something you don't need ......

It is worth it and once you have it you will wonder how you ever had so much fun without it

Thats nailed it ..exactly true. ( without repeating other threads too... once you have enjoyed keyless go you wouln't want to be without that either , its not just a gimmick .(imho)

Pulled my GSA (15 plate) out from the garage after 3 months. GSAP packed up. Just didn't work. Dealer immediately changed it as they had one on the shelf. They said they'd never had a GSAP fail before. So i was just unlucky ?
I do use it, and I love it. Especially with the new software. :thumb2
