A mate has an MY04 1150GSA, when riding and going up and down (overtaking etc) the box all is fine. When he's slowing down (roundabout junctions etc) it will not pass from 4th to 3rd without great difficulty if at all..

Any thoughts as to why this would be would be greatly appreciated, all other gears are ok just the drop from 4th to 3rd.

Cheers :beerjug:

Check the short linkage between the gear lever and the gearbox the ball and socket joint each end need cleaning with degreaser and a small dab of grease, it's worth trying before you pull the gearbox out.

take off gear shift lever, take out nylon bush clean and grease then refit. 20 mins work for months of smooth gear changes:thumb2

The srew holding this on is locktighted so warm it first, I got mine off without as I dident know but warming is a lot easier, will cure all probs.

Thanks, I will pass this info on and let you know the outcome...

Cheers

Yep, as has already been described. Common problem for the linkage to slightly seize up over a period of time.

As above... I too had a sticky gearbox 20k or so ago, stripped the linkage, cleaned and greased and all good since. Easy and £ lots cheaper than tearing into your gearbox...

Don't forget the little circlips holding the 'knuckle' on; they're not called ping-fuckits for nothing :blast

You can't dismantle the joints without removing two clips. They are removed with two movements. Pull one end then lift to remove. Once they are removed the joints can be popped apart. Can't think of any better words to describe it.

Clips which are the easiest things in the world to loose and the shift linkage won't stay together without them. Don't ask me how I know :).
