Is the switch that gives the gear your in situated in the middle behind the swing arm. I am having problems with the gear selected indicator. I have already lubricated this but still no joy.....maybe its worth unplugging and cleaning connections ?
Any one got a photo of this swith and an idea how much it is to replace.

From what I've heard this seems to be a fairly common problem. I had one changed under warranty and Balderston's told me loads fail due to water ingress but BMW haven't improved the design yet. The replacement has worked fine for almost three years.

Mine went two days before a big trip, cost me £100 to replace IIRC. BMUW allow about 5-10 mins to replace. Make sure the exhaust is cold though
try this thread. Once its starts playing up, change it
