Can anyone tell me what diameter these are so I can order some before I do the oil changes. In need the drain and fill sizes for each.
My local bike shop wants 70p each :eek:so I am going to buy a load of them from elsewhere.

Precisely. You pay way over the odds buying like that. I run 4 bikes so I figure it will be worth getting a load of them as even on ebay they are around £2.65 for 20 without even looking very hard.

You are of course quite right, but lazy though it is, I just buy them when I get my other consumables because it's convenient. Only running one bike, it doesn't amount to a great expense in the scheme of things.

However, you've got me thinking now - it would be quite handy to have a pot full that I could dip into as and when required. I'm pretty sure I saw a thread on adv which detailed sizes but I've just had a quick search and can't find it.

They come in the filter from BMW. Well they have done when I've done mine.

Let us (me) know when you find the info, as I'm rapidly heading towards a major service :thumb

Or you could have a little business 'on the side' going there ;)

RealOEM is your friend.

Engine drain plug is A16x20.
Gearbox filler is A18x22 copper I believe. Wurth part 0460 18 22
No washer on drain plug
Final drive is 2 of A14x18 al (aluminium)- one each for filler and drain. Wurth part 0463 14 18
Wurth sell them in packet of 100.
Wurth web site is a PITA, but you can pick up a catalogue from their shops.

I'll give you clue - for the 1150 models the drain plug washer is the same as the fill washer on the gearbox and final drive.

So you can take them out measure them with spilling anything :D

Good site that. I just looked up the correct items for my 1100 and it does have a washer on the gearbox drain, another A14x18-AL

I have bought a load of copper washers. The two identical ones for the final drive are supposed to be ally. Is there any reason why copper washers could not be used here?

I've read somewhere that bikes from 96 on don't use a washer on the final drive drain plug.

not sure where you read that matey.. it's complete nonsense.

some people don't use the copper washer.. and instead give the bolt an extra quarter turn. this is their decision... not recommended by BMW. when you order a service kit for an 1100.. they don't ask you what year the bike was made.. because from this point of view (oil) all the bikes are identical.

As long as they have similar deformation characteristics as the alloy ones I'd have thought they'd be ok - you're screwing a steel plug into alloy so you don't want them to be harder than a new alloy washer. However, the factory torque settings (if you use them) probably won't apply.

The behaviour of the alloy washers always give me that little 'oh sh*t' frisson of excitement when they go plastic and deform as you tighten them (feels just like a thread stripping). This is why they always say to use a new washer - used ones won't deform and if you torque them to the book, you increase the chances of stripping the casing.

Never mind - I might be thinking of the gearbox drain plug washer.

Cobblers

What is this load of the above? buy a service kit filter etc and all the washers are supplied.
