gearbox failure

I'm slightly suprised at the lack of interest previously shown when I posted that my gearbox had stuck in fifth. Everyone seems to be more concerned with 'what colour hugger is fastest' type of things, and I wonder how many people actually ride their bikes, certainly I now have a nagging doubt concerning reliability on a long journey, and will stick 2-3K on it at home before a long jaunt overseas.
Anyhow, for the few that may have an interest-it could be you, I needed a complete new gearbox, which has gone straight back to Germany for investigation, and a new clutch, which of course, was fubar'ed. This was dealt with by Vines, in three days, and who also fitted some crash bars and upgraded the software. The bike now pulls like a train, and is smoother everywhere. As my bike was supplied only in the middle of september, older vehicles may benefit from this software update. Superb service by Vines, soooo much better than BMW Puke Drain; thank you very much guys.

Now, off to ride the thing, I hope yours doesn't suffer the same fate, and that your running lights and fender extenders work really well, too.

A tutto gas

I'm not entirely sure what can be said about your gearbox problem. Now failures do happen particularly in the early part of the 'bath tub' curve.

It's a sort of 'hmmm, noted and awaiting the feedback sorta thing.

Now which hugger's gonna be best, Motorrad or NWS?:D :D :D

I guess the lack of response is because there have been one or 2 failures in the gearbox area. If you do a search there are a few threads on this subject - don't feel ignored.

Glad its fixed but it is concerning.

I have to say that I was highly interested in your gearbox failure post, and have been actively awaiting the latest update. Many thanks for letting us know that it is now sorted.

Please dont take any lack of reply to your original post as a personal sleight on yourself. Sometimes we just cant be arsed and like it all to be spelt out letter by letter for us. Lets face it, we are generally browsing the site when we are at work, and moving the mouse is about as much energy as we can muster - typing a reply is certainly out of the question. Experience does however show that if you were to post something like "all 1150s are crap, my 1200 is much better and is faster than 1150s even if I leave it in 5th gear all the time" you'd have elicited a more energetic response.

I do agree that Vines are now so much better since the previous service manager has departed. Darren & Damien (Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum :D ) are very much more into customer service and do a great job.

Glad to learn of the speedy resolution, eyeguy!

Mark me down as one who really rides his bike, as I have put on 14,300 miles since I picked it up on April 17th. No troubles, so far.

Extremely pleased to hear that the matter was sorted in such good way by your dealer. And, thanks for keeping us informed!

Glad to hear it's sorted. Interested to find out what the fault with the box was, when they tell you.
