just changed oil in gearbox/final drive came out grey in colour no metal particals in oil no leaks in either unit,it was halfords 80/90 ep is this normal?

How long in time since it was changed? Same question in miles?

I changed the oil in my FD Divvy and it was light chocolate colour! No problems since changing.

Halfords 75w/90 is GL5. Not sure about 80w/90 Halfords stuff.

Dead right it won't.

How does this silkolene oil know it's in say a 500cc twin and not a 1000cc four, and what's the difference anyway (no, not between the twin and the four, I mean the oil..) I assume it listens to the beat and then lubricates appropriately?:augie

To get back 'on-thread', the only time I've seen grey coloured oil coming out of my gearbox was on an 1100 when the colour was due to aluminium particles wearing from the selector forks, which evertually were too forked to select.

.

It should be re-branded "gullible oil". It enables them to sell a standard oil as something special ( read the blurb, it must be true) , which strangely enough also entails an increase in price.

They also do a special twin engine oil. I've never noticed an epidemic of twin cylinder engine failures in the past due to inadequate oil.

oil

What would one use in a three cylinder engine?, a castrol rep told me once aftre me asking what "agriultural oil was", he said "farmers would not pay the price of oil (sounds correct) so the renamed it to agri whatever! and iis cheaper. bullshit baffles brains.
