just changed oil in gearbox/final drive came out grey in colour no metal particals in oil no leaks in either unit,it was halfords 80/90 ep is this normal?

Halfords 75w/90 is GL5.
You must use GL5 specification oil.
Most 80/90 gear oils are only GL4. Was this one GL5 ??.
) GL5 spec 80w/90 gear oil as well as 20w/50 semi-synthetic engine oil for 'twins' too. This should now end for ever the GS oil debates.

How does this silkolene oil know it's in say a 500cc twin and not a 1000cc four, and what's the difference anyway (no, not between the twin and the four, I mean the oil..) I assume it listens to the beat and then lubricates appropriately?
