Just got back from Taunton having had a bit of an epic ride.
Travelling down the M5 at 80 ,heard a whining noise and pulled off the motorway and limped to the nearest bike shop[ in Taunton. Sounds like one of the bearings has gone big time.Very noisy under load with vibes through the foot pegs.Going to be expensive -probably around £700 to mend.
The bike -a 1150GS with 14000 on the clock.Serviced last month including new gearbox oil (syntrax 75w90).
Makes me wonder if these bikes are all they are cracked up to be .
Off for a stiff G+T

Gearbox

Just swopped the g'box from my Adv after an off, Insurance claim, box is perfect but for an acid splash on the casing.

It is the low gear, black type, 2.5K miles.

Loads of other minor damaged bits as well.

Let me know if you want me to haggle with the insurance firm, the Dealer is holding all the bits for me till I can talk to them as I already thought guys here would be interested.

Cheers, Rick

JetJock,

Have a word with Mick Barr, he's in Scraptoft. He rebuilt my 1100 gearbox; all new bearings and seals and the upgrade for the early 1100 box along with a new clutch friction plate for £280. Pidcocks were somewhere round the £1000 mark for the same work.

Thanks Rob. I have spoken to Mick and he's happy to take the bike on so hopefully have it back in a few weeks
