Help!
My '08 GS is currently at SBW Motorrad in Hertford for an annual service. They've just called to say that there is a gearbox oil leak from the input shaft. They've advised that the oil seal on the shaft needs replacing and that as there is a minor clutch slip, they would have to replace the clutch too. Cost around £1,100 + vat. (Aparrently with the seal replacement, the clutch would need to be replaced anyway.)
It is out of warranty but it has only done 9 100 miles and has always been dealer serviced. I've had problems with my elbow and so haven't ridden the bike since last November but took it out around 4 weeekends ago for 30 or so miles. I felt no clutch slip and noticed no oil. (Recent surgery puts me a good 6 weeks away from riding again).
As the mileage is low and has been dealer serviced, SBW have asked BMW for a goodwill claim and BMW have offered 50% of the cost of the parts only. SBW are trying to get authorisation for a full claim have gone back to BMW. We await their response.
Any advice on the following (or generally) would be most welcome:
1.) Given the mileage, should I try to push BMW to cover the entire claim on a goodwill basis? If so, how do I go about this, who do I contact, etc?
2.) Is there any other way of bringing the cost down? I would tend to go to my local independant BMW guy (Motoscot) for something like this but I don't imagine the discounted parts offer would apply?
Any help or advice greatfully received.
