Gearbox Seal oil leak, HELP !!!!

A friend of mine has just found the dreaded gearbox oil seal leak.
The BMW dealer want £600 to fix it as it is very labour intensive, i am told.
Is it possible for a DIY mechanic with a little knowledge and some tools to fix it themselves or is it really a specialist job requiring specialist tools.

yes, someones just replaced the clutch, that must be 99%%5 of the job

Use an independent BMW mechanic,Gardner in Ormskirk probably nearest to you will be cheaper.
