How the feck am i supposed to know whats best for someone in another country just by looking at a photograph.
Weld it up = how do i know if he has anyone near thats capable of doing the job, let alone how much they'll charge in hungarian rupees.
Second hand box = how do i know where he can get one and at what price. The price varies depending on year, mileage, condition, availabilty.
New gearbox case = Again, how do i know where to locate one, and have they the right tools for shimming the box ?.
Why didn't you say that in the first place?
If you want a meaningful answer you really should provide all the important details (like is the bike going to be in Budapest or the UK!)

I fixed mine by welding it together.
And then installed Touratech Hard Parts.

why bring my name up?
I hardly ever comment on the technical aspects of these bikes.. I'm not competent to do so. definitely not the 1150 as I've never owned one. When I do say anything its usually about the 1100GS and I'm usually paraphrasing what I've remembered from previous posts by Steptoe. I've learnt a lot in the 12 years I've owned one.. but 'knowing my stuff' - you must be joking. I'm still learning and not ashamed to admit it.
I have read some nonsense on this site.. but your post onahi plumbs new depths.
Steptoe offered me some advice a few years ago and I acted on it and in the process my bike was completely transformed. In my opinion anyone who questions or ridicules the advice that he offers for free, to all, on this site is an idiot.

it was a wind up
nice of you to stick up for saint steptoe though![]()
