Gedinne - Classic road racing

Rather than start a new thread I’ll tag onto this one with an early call for Gedinne this year.

I’ll be booking annual leave early and going this year though whether I use the bike or rag top remains to be decided.

I’m not posting dates because if you can’t use a search engine to find them you’ve no chance of actually getting there so take it as a first test. The only hint is that it’s in August :D

Commit to going and we can start talking about where to camp etc….

Got a link, mate?

No because you don’t need one :D

My initial plan is to stop on the site nearer town rather than the field by the start line because it’ll make a change viewing from the track on that side and it’s not far to walk to somewhere different to my normal zone of interest plus a bit more civilised.

I enquired of this campsite as to whether I could take my motorhome, to which the fellow said, “Oui, monsieur”

Which is 18 minutes by bicycle from the circuit. Actually, a bit less, as the N935 is part of the circuit.

I’ve left them a voicemail with my arrival dates! Whe I know exact dates I’ll call and book in. I am returning from a wedding in Aachen leaving the Sunday. Maybe the Saturday.

Bugger, the wedding in Aachen is on 16th August, Friday. That means even if I had a real shindig, I'd have 5 days to kill waiting for the race to start...unless I am missing dates or suggestions..

Five days riding around Belgium / Luxembourg / Germany…… and you think it’s a problem?

I'd need a base to camp. Any suggested staging areas round there? " Might" have to be back in blighty for 24th as its swmbos' birthday. If I get a pass for that , it might be worth it then I can see a few days racing

The Ardennes and Luxembourg are littered with campsites. It might well depend more on where abouts you are.

I was thinking along the lines of maybe getting to a place on the Thursday 15th and setting up camp (and leaving it set up) between calais and Aachen. Then a quick jaunt to Aachen on Friday and fri night for the wedding, head back on Sat to mty pre erected tent!. Riding around that area, then head for the road racing. Unless gedinne would be that base. I'd probably leave gedinne sunday for home

Calais to Aachen is quite a long way. Halfway is roughly Mons or a north south line through the town. Several campsites around there. That said, Mons(ish) is not necessarily a ‘short hop’ to Aachen at two hours, direct.

Gedine to Aachen is roughly two hours, going directly. It would be a better hub, as it offers up the south side of Belgium for the rest of your jaunt.

You need a map :D :beerjug:

forgive my ignorance, but is this an open road race event, as in viewing is free or is it an enclosed circuit and a pay per day thing?

It’s a few euro to cross the road into the paddock area, where the bar is. We’ll be there.

website said 30 euro a day...or
1 entrance for Friday : 30 €

1 entrance for Saturday : 30 €

1 entrance for Sunday : 30 €

1 entrance for 3 days : 40 €

I’ll pay the €40 so I can use the toilets, food and beer facilities plus look at the bikes and watch the first few corners.
