Generator/alternator Fault

Hi all,
I have an 08 F800GS, done 33K miles, recently have had problems starting the bike :(, then on a 50 mile motorway journey, first the ABS light comes on, the lamp, and then the whole instrument panel shuts down. Eventually the engine cuts out :tears and a call to the AA, a car battery strapped to the back got me home.

The Bike was just a month or so out of warranty hence the AA call, put it in for testing at a BMW dealer (Chester) they and other dealers I contacted were convinced it was the battery, however after much testing they found the generator/alternator had burnt out.

Much to their praise BMW have paid for the replacement generator (£400) :bow I was wondering if anyone else had this fault?

Also if anyone has found an aftermarket supplier of an uprated generator?

The bike has heated grips and computer but the only additional electrical items on the bike are cheap lights (self fitted, separate fuse system, max 100w) and as I don't run anything else, I'm surmising it's a one off fault from manufacture, I have had problems from new (very occasional difficulty starting and the heated grips not warming up in a timely fashion) but put this down to my additional lights. :nenau
