Geneva 2015...... Bike Transport

Update

Well, everyone arrived safely in Geneva where we encountered a sweltering 33C when picking up the bikes in the hotel car park.

There was then a starburst as some hit the road straight away although some of us stayed overnight and availed of slightly cooler temperatures next morning. Got even hotter than Thursday tho', I saw 38C and that was up in the Juras.

I'm presently in Besancon where there are horrendous thunderstorms so sitting it out today and heading to Nevers tomorrow

All the bikes were loaded up yesterday evening for the return leg, all went smoothly even with the 28 degrees of sun on our backs, the truck has transited without a hitch and is currently awaiting to board the Cherbourg ferry

I'd like to thank Andy and Tom and the rest of the crew involved in transporting the bike to and from Geneva, a seemless and faultless process!!!

I'd Also like to thank Steve (bettyswollocks) for sorting the admin part - you did a grand job considering you're and Excel spreadsheet biff ;) thanks mate.

Great to meet all the folk on the same adventure too.

An outstanding trip!!!

Cheers all

Stay safe

You quite correct one bike never made it back to the truck due to a mechanical failure and had to make alternative travel plans.

I had a ball folks. A massive thanks to Andy, Tom and the Belfast Flyers who loaded and unloaded in Belfast.

I got to meet some real good people and hope our paths cross again soon.

Andy or myself will be in touch in due course re feedback..... Good or bad.

My helmet and suit are steeping due to the mid 30's temps causing a bit of a pong.

Lastly, thanks to my travelling companion for all the laughs he gave and the route planning he did!

I was in France at the start of the month for 9 days. Mid to high 30's temperature, my bike and gear where with the haulier until Friday. I had to wash my clothes 3 times to get the dank stink out of them and I may have to burn my boots and trousers!!!

Stick the boots in the freezer for a couple of days. Kills the bacteria.

I did it last year and the they were perfectly useable again.
Suppose it should work with the clothes too.

My neighbour is on holidays and I have a key to their house....................... think I'll use their freezer, what they don't know won't hurt them 👌

Just back this afternoon from my one-way trip (bike went to Geneva, I rode it home and Jockser took my place on the returning truck)

Had a great time meandering through France via Juras, Loire valley and Normandy to the Cherbourg ferry last night. Temperatures became bearable as I headed North and West, didn't see rain until Rosslare this morning and then it pissed down all the way home :D

Also like to add my thanks to Andy, Stevie and all the rest who helped it all go smoothly.

Finally, I can recommend Maison Laudiere and Normandy Beach B&Bs as stop-overs, lovely people, super grub and great craic :thumb2

Just wanted to say a big Thank You to Stephen, Andy and the whole team who made this trip happen. This was my first european trip and certainly won't be my last! The whole trip was well organised and everyone knew exactly where to be and at what time. I will post a few pictures later

Jockser took my place on the returning truck

Unfortunately I didn't. Final drive failed on Grossglockner & by the time I got it repaired I didn't have enough time to get to Geneva & had to make alternative arrangements to get home. In fairness Andy offered to delay departure by a couple of hours but I would have needed 24….
