It was the NFB Christmas Do at Bridge of Cally last night and Anette came to help us emty the bar.

We took the opportunity to have her unveil Gert's Bench at Blackwater Hall (where we host oor Blackloonies events) seeing as how the bench was built and taking up space in Gerry Watts' workshop.

It will still be officially christened at the Gert It Doon Yer Neck event early next year but it seemed too good an opportunity while Anette was with us in the area (it's only 4 miles between the Bridge of Cally Hotel and the hall where the bench is now situated.

The bench itself is a beaut and Shep did us really proud with the engraved brass plaque.

Rab put the final touches to the bench at Gerry's workshop this morning

Then four of us heaved it onto Gerry's trailer for the short hop down to the hall. Rab reckoned that he couldn't have bought the wood for what we paid for the completed bench delivered.

Anette declared Gert's Bench officially open

And Anette then had the first Jaegermeister at the bench, quickly followed by everyone else

Evidence of Shep's top notch work

And evidence that the bench is FB proof :nod

When ever you're riding on the A92 Blargowrie to Braemar road, stop off for a seat and a ponder at Gert's Bench.

Great work guys. That's now on my "to visit" list in the coming months.

Sorry I wasn't there.

Well done everyone - a fine effort and a fitting memorial.

And I see that Rab has 'dressed' the screw heads - top work that man :thumb

Hope to be there some day.

Bob.

Any chance of a waypoint for the location ?

The Blackwater Hall. It's on the west side of the A92 road about 4 miles north of Bridge of Cally just past a signposted juntion for Tullymurdoch.

Sorry, I can't stick up the waypoint.

Sorry I wasn't there.

You were in no way involved with the bench so why would you have been there?

Lots of folk who actually contributed to the purchase of the bench weren't present on Sunday simply because the only people there were the folk who'd attended the Xmas Do. The unveiling was done then due to Anette being with us.

It wasn't meant as a snub to any of the contributors and we'll still be having the official "opening" at the event in March.

Great work lads :clap
I look forward to a Jáger or ten on it in the years to come :jager

Great job - a fine tribute, in a fine place.

Thanks to Rab, Ronno, Gerry, Shep.

I shall stop off there next easter and have a wee dram in memory of Gert & a good health dram for Anette; both of whom I met along with my wee wife at the Skye Soirree. :beerjug:
Is the official christening of Gerts Bench an open invite or only ex Blackloonie attendees? Can't quite remember what has been said already (It's an age thing you know:D)

Anyone is welcome to attend the Grand Opening, Johnnyboy. It will take place at the weekend of the Gert It Doon Yer Neck event. The time and date have still to be confirmed. :thumb2

It was only contributions that were restricted and that was solely for ease of money mangement by me. I just went to a wee skale...:D

Great effort to all involved and what a fitting tribute to a great Guy who will be sorely missed and thought of fondly by Us all.
