No one seems to really care !

BMW have basically said "Nowt to do with us mate". The OP has been paid out and presumably the OP's insurer will simply write the bike off. It may end up at Copart, where it will be sold and either rebuilt or possibly broken for parts. Further watering down the real issues of why the accident happened in the first place

Maybe next time, when the same things happens again, the rider may be killed resulting in Police accident investigators becoming involved and possibly BMW taking a more serious look in to what actually happened? :nenau

For now, it's just a case of, nothing to see here biker mate. Move along :augie

There has already been a "Next Time"

If this was completely out of the blue, I would totally agree with you. He changes the brake pads right before this happens, while claiming he didn't remove the caliper, and this happens. Don't you think that is a massive coincidence?

Hardly surprising BMW have not taken responsibility for this

A next time when somebody has been killed?

Nope, thankfully, but another failure involving the caliper and its mounting casting, obviously chucking a couple of pounds of metal into your spoked rear wheel has the potential for a much more serious outcome, the riders have been lucky so far

Stand to be corrected, but read some where the caliper does not need to be removed to change the pads on the machine he was riding

What about the front calipers, that would be even more dangerous.

Right so you don't think it's odd this happened right after he replaced the pads?

The pads hadn't been changed / touched on the next failure

"Just a couple of days ago, another GSER suffered a similar incident on the M5, though his wheel stayed intact long enough to come to a halt thankfully. So thats at least three of us who's rear calliper has come loose! "

I read that post and I don't see any mention of the pads being changed or not. Are you concluding they weren't simply because it wasn't mentioned?

Just reading the last few posts on this thread and a thought occurred to me (unusual I know).

I need to get hold of some of that yellow paint thats dabbed all over the bolts on a new bike, so its easier to keep an eye on any (calliper) bolts moving/ coming lose.

Anyone know the best place to get it from please?
