How the hell do you do it!!

I'm loosing the will to live here

Got a new laptop, managed to get Garmin express loaded on it, Basecamp is loaded on it and working, but I've never used it before and would prefer to stick with Mapsource.

I've managed to get the original Mapupdater installed onto it, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get Mapsource loaded onto this new lapper

A few questions :-

I think I read on this forum somewhere that Garmin are not doing any more updates for Mapsource, they are only going to support Basecamp - is this correct??

If it is, should I just bite the bullet and force myself to try and learn Basecamp?

Also, could I just somehow copy the Mapsource from my old laptop onto this new one?

The Garmin website is just shocking, so user unfriendly, why the hell do they change things all the time when I've only just got used to the last one :(

Not to mention this new laptop has bloody windows 8 on it, between the two of them I could fekkin scream

Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to sort this out before I ring the bloody Samaritans :nenau

Poucher.......try the advanced search function here and use my name and 'Mapsource'

4 or 5 years ago, I posted a thread about how to quite legally download, modify and install mapsource......You do have to edit a file in a minor way, but all the info is in thast thread :beerjug:

Download Mapsource from:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209
That will only give you the base map, however. Assuming you already have maps installed on any other PC, just copy them across using a memory stick or whatever.
The maps are in a big .gmap folder in:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Garmin\Maps

Unlock codes are saved in .gma files in this folder:

%APPDATA%\Garmin\Maps

...and need to go to these folders on your new PC.

Or have I misunderstood?

Thanks for the reply's Chaps!

Dohh! why didn't I think about the original map CD's

All done now, even a numpty like me has managed to update both Laptop and Zumo to Mapsource 2014.1 Yippee!! :D
