Am picking up a new LC in five weeks, trading my 1200R, getting a bit worried about some of the negative comments on here.Have had the 1100,1150 and 1200 with no major problems but there does seem to be a pattern evolving with unhappy owners, anyone got any positive comments ?

don't worry, be happy

Had a r1200gsa (2008) before, and have a R80 (1992) and R1200GS LC in the garage now.

It is more likely you will see issues popping up here. This is the good thing about a forum for those who have issues, to take it up with others and share experiences .

That leaves the majority of owners without big issues outside of the scope, since there isn't anything dramatic about reporting that there is nothing wrong with your bike.

I think you worry too much. I have no issues and I'm already beyond my first service. Enjoy your new bike. :D

I had a policy of never looking to buy the Mk1 of anything since that’s the version that flushes out the major gremlins, though that hasn’t stopped me forking out 14 big ones for one of these beauties. Sure some people have had problems but I think they’re in the minority and for the numbers sold it feels like (I know some of them have had a rough ride) background noise. I’m very happy with mine and look forward to years of happy ownership.

I imagine you’ll probably be getting a steering dampner which I found out was being introduced 2 days before I picked mine up without one. So I had last minute heebejeebies too. If I’d looked at the all the negative comments from those who own the bike and what seems plenty from those that don’t I’d have worried far more than I’d have needed to. I’ve had the 1150 and bunch of 1200’s too and they weren’t exactly free of issues too - new clutch at 600 miles old, repeated warped discs, etc.

Get the bike & love it.

Relax

People don't post unless there's a problem. I've just done 1000 miles trouble free and the bike is brilliant. I kept my Fireblade when I bought the GS but haven't ridden it for 2 months as the GS just puts a smile on my face everytime.
Having said that there clearly are a few issues for the minority of owners but BMW ultimately seem to deal with it well.

Thanks, a bit more reassuring and wasnt aware about the steering damper mod:)

I take it yours is for a 1st September 63 plate. Mine is timed round about then, but I have not been able to find out which week it is going to be built or whether it will have any of the 2014 updates.

My dealer told me my bike is due in to them the third week in August but hasnt mentioned any updates, suppose we will find out soon enough

This place is full of bloody moaners!! It's a very, very good bike, and it's current and up to date. There is so much whinging about noisey gears, can't find neutral, over sensitive throttle ... You name it, they'll whine about it!
Buy with confidence .... Best bike I've had in years .. :beerjug:

Just arrived in Belgium for 1st service, 1000 kms.

Bike has been brilliant, up the route Napoleon and through Gap, etc.

D roads all the way.

Handling and brakes are amazing, engine superb.

Clutch was a little draggy at first, making lower gear changes clunky.

It's better now, changes are perfect without the clutch and acceptable with it.

Had better, had worse.
:nenau

The change from my 2006 1200 is massive.

Just get it, stop worrying about all the negative comments on here and ride the thing.
:thumb

By the way, even running in, you can really hoon it!

:bounce1

Buy a really nice GSA 1150 fully loaded and stick 10k into another bike or four, or stick it in the bank, or go on a world cruise, or buy 15 to 20 years of season tickets at your favourite premier league club.

Or buy a BMW LC :D and take each day as it comes..........:thumb2

2nd that, its a fantastic ride:thumb2 forget fannying around with the clunk at traffic lights. On the move is where its at, Dynamic mode is just so much fun when you want to make real progress. Sync the throttle, clutch and gear change accurately and it will love you forever and put a grin on your face like no other GS did before :D

Things get blown out of all proportion on Internet forums. Don't worry. That is all.:thumb:beerjug:

Or blown into proportion ?

It's hard to be accurate about fault type posts because most people who own any type of vehicle don't go near a public forum.

I'll agree its a great bike a massive leap forward that puts it ahead of its competitor and mine has a few issues that prevents me from be able to use it, it sits in the dealers awaiting parts now 3-4 weeks and still no light at the end of the Chunnel ! Now this is the frustration part of ownership its a great bike but its let down by the manufacture because they can't source the parts to fix it !

But, you're one of the only ones in this position.:rob I'm not making excuses, but thousands have now been sold all over the world, and on here and the Adv forum, you are the only one with a bike sat in the dealer for weeks waiting for parts.:comfort

'fraid he's not the only one. Mine was at the dealers for two weeks for gearbox issues. It's now back with them for the same thing and its been a week already with my expectations set in the order of weeks running into perhaps a month or two. Still a great bike and can't wait to get it back but don't want it until its fixed for good.
