Givi Airflow Screen review

Having read this thread I decided I perhaps ought to order an airflow, I wasn't really expecting it to arrive until next week but it turned up yesterday.

I did around 250 miles last Friday with the standard screen and pretty much hated every mile - it was a windy day and I struggled to be honest.

Anyway I fitted the screen this morning (I was waiting for a more technical mate to do it for me but decided to have a go.) I have just been out for a little ride about with the bottom screen at its lowest and the top at about 3/4's.

Fair enough, I didn't go above 80mph but I didn't need to lower my visor at all.

Why the hell this is not standard equipment I really don't know, it has totally transformed the bike.

Anyway NN Winglets to fit over the weekend - I don't really see how it can improve but I am prepared to be amazed.

Prepare to be amazed....was up at 95 on a "private road":augie over the week end...visor up....bliss

Airflow

Yes its amazinging for the price, been using mine all winter, visor up in the cold, various speeds ! excellent, however, there will be a little buffeting if following other vechicles, hell it is a motorbike,a much improved one now,
just one thought, come that time of year when the warmth comes & flies, will it be stuffy??:blast

Been out on the "private roads" myself this morning. 95mph with the visor up is indeed quite possible.

Agree about a bit of buffeting when following other vehicles but I can certainly live with that.

Quite funny really - I thought I had bought a comfort pack when I bought the bike.

I cannot recommend the combo I have fitted enough

I think the term "Comfort pack" must have translated badly from German, I have made my own "Comfort Pack"

1. Tony Archer Seat - A bit more padding, much comfier, also raises seat a bit giving a shade more leg room.
2. Givi Screen & Winglets - Significantly less wind noise and buffeting.
3. Quick Action throttle - Noticeably less "wringing" required to reach the power.

Don't forget to move levers to fit you, I have found almost every bike I have ever bought has these at a strange angle, probably due to 5'0 test riders with Jap machines, no idea who sets BMW ones, but mine needed moving down a fair bit.

Certainly agree with buffeting behind a vehicle. Got stuck behind a lorry this afternoon and I took a bit of a battering.
Once past him though, back to normal and comfortable ride. :thumb

I am in Sydney Aus, we had a scorcher this summer. Regular 30c days and high humidity, highest I read on the temp gauge was 47c on a motorway. No bike is comfortable in those conditions. I had top screen as low as possible air was good and not turbulent, even cools you down a bit.

Thanks for your support

Hi Guys, it seems a long time since I posted the special offer on here. I just thought i'd say thanks for all your support and im really glad so many of you are so chuffed with the AF330, you have all helped me to get one up on my superiors as they wouldnt give me the time of day when I first suggested stocking this item. Now 12 months down the line and the best part of 100 units sold I feel smugger than a smug thing. Just to clear up a couple of points I have seen raised.
Firstly since the VAT rate increased with the UKGSer forum discount you can get one for £129.99 including delivery, provided the postman can get to you without a boat or climbing up a big hill.
Secondly, we havn't had one returned so far. I dont recall any negative feedback from this item whatsoever and for anyone thats still undecided I will also offer you a no quibble guarantee. If you dont like, send it back in the original packaging and I'll give you a full refund. Simple.
Its great to see so many happy customers and dont forget if you need anything else, batteries, luggage, oil, brake pads etc etc give me a call. Im always happy to chat to a fellow GSer (and do you a good deal :comfort).
All the best and happy trails

I had a couple of small problems with my screen (top part) and Cieran has provided excellent customer service. :thumb. Must just have to do another test run this weekend!

Any chance of sourcing me just the upper screen after my "mishap" that scratched it ?

Winglets now fitted...

After using the A330 for the last 6 since last summer i eventually got round to fitting a set of NN winglets.
The whole process of taking off all the plastic thingies, drilling, refitting all the plastic thingies and hey presto job done in about 2 hours which for a plank like me was pretty good going !!
So today in the glorious sunshine that shone on Hampshire today I gleefully emptied me tank assessing the difference the winglets make, and can actually say that I noticed the difference straight away. Motorway speeds very stable but if pushed on into 90's (private road testing that is) the front does become "light".
But given that a good improvement in ride comfort and worth the 40 odd quid at Nippies.

Can do, they retail at £38.16 so with the UKGSer discount we can do you one at £30 plus £5 postage to mainland UK.

Keep your knees in the breeze :clap

Read this thread, bought one from Cieran, and frankly couldn't be happier!:clap

Still playing with it to get the optimum setting but what a difference! Massively less wind noise, smooth airflow, visor up at 60mph. Blimey....

If you're still thinking about it it's the best £130 I've spent in ages. Thanks Cieran!

Now anyone about 6'0" like to tell me what they've got theirs set to?

Look at the pictures on page 11 of this thread, my bike (i'm 6ft) showing the settings. Many including me, have fitted winglets, these make a good screen a great one, the combination works well. On a clear road visor up at 90MPH no buffeting. Seat setting high front low back wearing a shoei qwest (another great bit of kit). Very happy with this set up.:thumb

I fitted this Givi screen last year, it makes a great difference, I rarely have my visor closed and the reduction in wind noise is noticeable. However it looks like a riot shield. (I quite like the look)

No winglets fitted .

Best hundred quid I have spent on the bike. Makes great sense, especially when on the motorway. The only issue I have had is the rigid metal bars that come with the screen rust a little, I have had to strip and re-paint. They are not rusting now.

I'm 6ft 4, so finding a perfect windscreen solution is always going to be pretty difficult. I was previously using a Nippy Norman high screen, which was OK, but decided to see if the Givi offered an improvement.

Next day delivery from DK, thanks to Cieran, and I fitted it easily enough. I didn't think the instructions were so bad ? Not brilliant, but not unuseable either.

Have to say I'm very impressed with it. I have the optional tall seat, on the high setting, which with my height provides a challenge for any screen. This is on an '07 12GS, and it also has BMW winglets.

In the totally low position it gives me a bit of protection but also some fresh air, when riding around for fun. In the nearly-fully-up position with the top screen at 75% it gives excellent protection on the motorway. You do still get some turbulence when following behind vans, but I think that's a fact of life with any tall screen.

So it gets a definite :thumb from me.

After checking with NorthLondonCookie that these do fit the 2010GS OK, I've ordered one from DK.....

Do the winglets make much difference with the Givi?
I'm a similar height to you and fitted a Givi. It is better that the Nippy high I had before but I still get some turbulence even on a clear road.

Haven't tried w/o the winglets. When I fitted them originally, the main effect was to reduce wind blast in the upper body/shoulder area, and I'm sure they're still doing that.

There's still a bit of turbulence with the Givi screen, but it's better than the NN high&wide, and I feel it's more a consequence of my height that I just have to live with...

The winglets do make a fair difference. I've got both the AirFlo and winglets.
