Givi Airflow Screen review

Might have to try the winglets come autumn. Not particularly bothered at the moment as I only commute 20 miles and it's warm now. I think I will struggle to kill all turbulence as I'm 6'3" and long in the body. I had a Pan before and bought the highest screen I could find and still caught the wind on top of the helmet. If I dipped my head 2" it went earily silent! I don't mind a little bit of buffeting but do like a quiet ride but hate wearing ear plugs especially for short journeys.

Just put em on. The winglets put the final polish in the search for a quiet ride and they're not expensive.

I do 23 miles a day with a mixture of fast duel carriage way and London traffic and ear plugs aren't necessary.

In fact I managed to haul the old barge up to 125mph the other day (private road) and it was still amazingly quiet. The only buffeting now is following other traffic but I don't see a way round that

Courier tried to deliver it today, I'll have to wait until Monday to collect it now :-(

Ghostbikes

Hello All
Just fitted an Airflow to the bike and it is A1. Got it from Ghostbikes in Preston and they price matched D&K to the tune of £127. Gave me a promo code for an instant 10% off any order over £150. Give 'em a call and see what you get!:clap

Just found this video demo of the screen....
<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GWhSadKrLJE&hl=en_GB&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GWhSadKrLJE&hl=en_GB&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

So far I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the performance of this screen.

It is quieter, but having my head shaken about like there are people with hammers hitting my helmet at 65mph+ is not what I expected :(

I've tried several combinations of the lower and upper screen position and some are better than others, but I fear the original screen may be back on by the end of the week :(

Peter.

Wierd....are you 7ft tall or something. Has a test ride on a 2010 GS with an OE screen...got back on to my 08 with the Givi....different bike, really is 80+ with the visor up. What lid have you got?

Try with winglets, massive difference! I installed af330 with them on, then took them off to see if there was a difference. Next day winglets went back and have stayed on. Might be worth a try if you havent yet...

Having ridden to work this morning I can see (*) where the problem lies. The whole screen is vibrating. If I put my finger on the top of the screen to hold it still the helmet vibrations stop.

Having tried 5 or so different screen positions this morning I think the turbulence is coming of the top edge of the bottom part of the screen because the position of the top part doesn't make much difference to this problem.

There is a bit of "play" in the mountings on the front of the screen that rotate as the bottom part is adjusted. I'll try packing them out a bit to see if that is what is allowing the screen to vibrate so much.

Peter

(*) It was dark by the time I took it out for a test ride yesterday evening.

Interesting, because I had an hour’s motorway run on Sunday on my way up to Oliver’s Mount for the bike racing and I was thinking how lovely and quiet it was behind my Givi screen (with winglets) compared with the original (without, I added winglets and Givi together). In fact, it was so quiet and turbulence free that I found my speed creeping up into licence loosing territory far too easily. Note to self: keep half an eye on the speedo.

Just ordered mine today from Ceiran (thanks mate). Hope to be able to comment soon.....

Bought one for my new Triple Black, i agree it is a well made piece of kit, but at only 5' 8'' i found myself looking through it rather than over.
Just couldn't get used to this so i took it off and still using the original for now.

In my usuall impatient manner, i had the lower half spray tinted to match the bike. It looks great from the outside but not so good from the cockpit. Needles to say i did this before i tried it.

It's only a couple of months old, used for about 20 mins, still basically brand new if anyone is interested. Hoping to get around £100 ?

Fitted today and just tried it out. Vast difference - it's definitely staying on. One of the best mods I've bought. Weird to be able to hear the engine now.....

I'm 5'9", can look over it in the low position and have winglets fitted. It seems to work OK in any position.

Mine for some reason works the best in the low position tilted all the way back. The higher it goes the buffeting increases. Oh well.

Success!

I fitted the Airflow a few weeks ago and whilst it was better than the Nippy's tall screen I acquired the bike with it was still buffeting my head. I'm 6'3". Today I fitted some Winglets and went for a test ride. No more buffeting of my head. I can feel a little around my shoulders / upper arms but that isn't annoying. Fanatastic. :)

I was so close buying a Mra screen too my r1150gsa after recommendations on this excellent forum. Unfortunaltly i found this thread here and on advrider about this givi airflow ;) Anyone knows if fitting is possible on a r1150gsa ? Or perhaps, the Mra windscreen works in the same way but only on r1150gs?
