Yes, it has a sheet steel brace that looks a little flimsey, when I had access to a proper machine shop I used to make my own from 1" ally billet
they looked good and were very stiff, them were the days

I think I'll ride it for a few months then make a decision about what to do to it over the winter, I like the idea of the Qtec rear end, but I might make my own with a little built in rear rack and hidden QD pannier rail fixings. Now where's my pipe bender

I would have been OK if it wasn't for looking through the Hot Airhead section a few months back, now, I fear, there is little chance for this bike to stay standard, in fact the only way that will happen is if I buy another that I might feel more suited my needs

...the brakes also made it feel like I was doing 30MPH more than I was, FFS they initially felt so crap I stopped to make sure they wern't covered in oil (they wern't of course) but after a while I got used to giving them the big squeeze far in advance of what I had got used to on the 12GSA and all was fine again, I had to relearn to ride a 'normal' bike after 5 years on linked brake bikes, but it didn't take long to get into the groove again and I started to enjoy the experience.

What? That funny round thing on the front wheel works?

Blimey. You got a good one. My two airyhead GSes had a sort of "fear-assisted slowing arragement" rather than a brake.

Ahem gentlemen, especially the 'non Wee bash attendee' Mr Armstong Esq., my bike is a superb faux GSPD and is a monolever..and that stainless steel fork brace fitted to it is (very ) bloody strong and I even had to get Vern to drill a couple of holes in it with his (diamond/tungsten whatever ) drill as mine wouldn't touch it!!! Recommended is that s/s fork brace

Great to see youve joined the "gentlemen". Nice looking bike that, They do take a bit of getting used to but they can be surprisingly good. Shame you missed the Week-end, we could have done with your musical talent

Getting used to it hasn't taken long really, I've only done a couple of hundred mile now and i'm feeling quite comfortable with MOST of it (the sidestand is being a little bit of a pain to sort out getting my head around, not helped by seeing Bakermans Migsel stand last night) and the indicator button seems a long stretch to switch it off after a right turn but thet is real minor and not really an issue.

Seat? Well i'll have a go with the new one and if I get on with it OK i'll give you a shout.

Well that's the first 1000 miles done, and i'm still very happy with it.

I fitted a corbin seat which is quite comfortable when riding the bike but it is a little wider than the standard seat when sitting on the bike with both feet down making the bike feel taller than what it is.

Running onto reserve is a pleasure i'd forgotton about

Steptoe worked his magic on the bike yesterday with a proper service and it runs really well now with a big improvement at low speed.

It's a better bike than I had hoped, dual carrageways & motorways are less daunting than I thought, it has a reasonable turn of speed in top between 65 & 95mph that allows lazy, safe manouvering in amongst the traffic. And it cruises quite comfortably at 75-85, B roads feel a little sluggish the CV carbs feeling very smooth but also a little 'restricting', it kind of gathers speed rather than accelerating hard. The small fairing keeps the wind of my upper body but directs the windblast onto my helmet, no buffeting, just good smooth airflow the only issue being now my visor won't stay open over 45mph so it's a bit stuffy in the good weather

I've not really got the hang of flinging it about in the bends yet, but it still has the missmatched tyres on so I feel there is an improvement to come from there. The front, an Enduro 3 is knackered and the rear, a tourance, dosn't get anywhere near its edges before the front starts to wander about.

Anyhow I don't want to be teaching you lot to suck eggs, but i thought i'd let you know how it's going
