Tomorrow I've got to acquire a bit of pipe with a kink in it.......any thoughts on where to start (apart from round the back of the local exhausts-r-us :D)

I smashed my last remus off-roading so I took it off and binned it.........because I'm a BGT though, I also threw away the 4" wudo connecting pipe that goes on the end of the 'y' piece before the end can to make the 'zorst horizontal....it's part of their normal lowering kit.....

They no longer do it and nobody seems to keep them, so I need to 'find' one.....about 4 inches with a kink in it of about 7 degrees (rough guess....must get out and measure it tomorrow) and the right size to slip over the end of the y piece/end can tubes

Anyone got any brilliant ideas? :)

How about scouring something like Classic Bike etc for a local pipework fabricator who makes exhaust downpipes. They may have some offcuts.

Get a 1200 :thumb2

You sir, are a twit.

My masculinity couldn't take such an affront :nono

Hmm, ta Colban..I'll have a peek but I sense there may be some pennies that may have to change hands there and I'm feeling particularly broke right now :)

just an idea.. ring around the local bike shops.. there might be someone with an old 'original' exhaust of some description lying around that could be cannibalised. Not necessarily from a bmw.. find the right size bit of pipe.. you might be lucky enough to find a 4" bit with a near enough kink already in situ.

That's pretty much what I'm intending on doing but TBH I reckon I've got more chance just turning up and having a cheeky root through their skips..or those of places like quickfit...I'm going to make a quick and dirty circumference measure of some sort (bit of string with knots in I suspect) and an angle tester on the same principle (bit of wood or thick card with the angle cut out that I can just offer up) and I reckon I'll be able to establish pretty quickly if a bit of pipe will work.

I reckon ringing up and asking detailed questions about bits of old pipe probably won't get me too far :)

I'm also wondering if there might be a way of using some flexible pipe of some sort, though I'd have to make a second mounting point as the box obviously relies on the mount half way along on the top as well as the rigidity of the joint to the y piece/cat end.

Whatever, I've got to get it done before the end of the weekend.

:blast

Why not buy a piece of "flexy pipe" that they use on some car exhausts? until you can source the correct part.

Try a local fabrication/welders shop for offcuts Bill...

That's where I went to get my 'Stubby' made up, they just used a bit of off-cut and a pre-shaped 'u' bend...:nenau..worth a punt if all else fails..

How about 'Bryn' he knocks up the stainless stubby pipes, perhaps he might be able to help Bill.

i'll keep an eye on this thread ;)

i been looking for ages for;

2 bits of pipe...
each 1' long...
13degree bend half way along..
43m.m. int. dia.

cheap. :P

to join the "H" piece to the (V11 Sport) pipes of my Guzzi Cali.
not worth going to a lot of trouble in my case as the straight pipe i'm using at the mo is the best i've come up with so far.
any other option i've seen so far would cost as much as "doing-it-properly" - i.e; spending big money on standard parts

If your scrabbling around in skips and such like, don't forget to wear a Hi-Vis vest and a hard hat.

And if you can get two or three people to just stand alongside and watch you, you'll look proper official.

Gotta wait in for a delivery today as it happens, but definitely going skip diving tomorrow :D

I wonder if I can fit some cones and crowd control tape on the bike :D

Thx Steve.....I'm up against a time problem as well though so getting something fabricated isn't an option :(

Bookmarked though :thumb

Can't you just put an OE system back on?

There must be hundreds of tossers with standard systems gathering dust in their garages!

Greg

Edit: Aren't you one of them?

If you look again at that website you will see that you don't need to get the pipe fabricated...

Flexible Exhaust tubing
Gas tight pipe
Ideal for in line flexing to absorb engine vibration
Stainless steel for longevity
Cut to length, 1" - 6" diameter

just order a piece the length you want... fit it to both parts of the exhaust then refit the exhaust and watch it form exactly the bend you need.

or is that too easy?

Yes.

The 'zorst mounts on the hanger on a rubber collet, and the only other thing keeping it secure is the inlet where it's clamped to the end of the Y piece outlet pipe....if I put a bit of flexi pipe in there, I'd need to somehow support that end via another bracket.

Not impossible, but a bit of a PITA.

Shame, cos it would be a really good solution, letting me angle the zorst up by taking the wudo hanger out when the bike's not wearing panniers and having it down flush when it is.
