Well after 12 months of 1250GS Rallye ownership I’ve decided to go back to a 1200 GSA and I’ve found a mint very low mileage 2018 1200 Triple Black GSA with full luggage, TFT, Dynamic Suspension, HSA etc etc and hope to collect on Wed. Spent this afternoon removing all the farkles from the GS ready to fit them to the GSA on Wed...

I’ve really enjoyed the 1250 but never felt I really gelled with it. Add to that the aweful Engine noise (tapping left cylinder and noisy clutch bearing) and the poor quality paint finish on the tank it’s time to say goodbye...
Amazing how much you realise you’ve fitted to these bikes once you start removing it!!!

No disrespect to you or your new bike as the 17/18 TB 1200 ADV are good looking bikes...Had one myself which I gladly traded on a Nazi-grey 1250GSA...Have a 1250GS-HP now miss the tankrange / not the heft...But anyways I could never go back to a 1200 after experiencing the smooth and creamy TORQUE of the 1250...Like going from full fat milk to skim milk...;) I actually like my 12 TC A/C 1200ADV better than my EU-4 2017...But the 1250 is a completely different experience ! All the best :thumb2

None taken boxerlust, however my 1250 GS is NOT silly smooth and the paint work is definitely sub standard to that of previous GS versions... I’ve already had the tank panel replaced once due to poor finish and after my recent trip the replacement panel is marked, probably from the tank bag. However I use a SW Motech tank bag which attaches to a ring so technically it’s sits off the tank. A result of poor quality finish. The engine, whilst more powerful sounds shite at standstill and makes more noise than my diesel car... I’m not for one second suggesting they are all like that, I’ve probably got a bad one but my previous 2015 GSA ever sounds that bad and neither does my Urban GS so it’s time to say goodbye....

An example of the poor quality I’m talking about.....

I love my 2018GSA. Smooth enough and powerful enough for me. After having it for 20 months, only recently decided to give the TFT connectivity a go. Even though it is on the original SW version it left the factory with, everything appears to work.

I would have them give me a new engine...mine has none of the noises you mentioned...Mechanically my 1250 is much quieter and smoother running than the 2017 1200...As for paint I don't run a tankbag and put pads on the sides so no paint can rub off...Enjoy the new one...One good thing though, your rear tire definitely will last longer...:thumb

This is going to upset 'em.

... Just grab my chair, tea and biscuits

They’re a good bunch of guys and always look after me. I have no issues with Bahnstormer at all, just wish the quality on the newer bikes was better... Not a Bahnstormer issue, more a BMW one...

Yes I see why you do this, I have buyed many pair of boots and same thing, some are just not the right fit or feeling, and older boots still on foot, but feel more happy, and if new bike 1250 is like you speak, I think you are correct it has taken away some of your dream.

Congratulations on your new Triple Black 1200, it looks lovely! Sometimes, newer is not better and you just know which bike suits you best, enjoy!

Selling an adv bike and downgrading to the previous generation that is inferior in power, torque, suspension, and economy because of complaining of poor plastics paint and noise? LOL.

Or perhaps you could think that I’m changing from a GS to a GSA, changing a bike with 5200 miles that needs a large service and new tyres to one with 1200 miles which doesn’t need anything, changing a bike which costs twice as much to insure than the other and changing one bike with poor quality paint, an engine issue and a loud clutch bearing that sounds like a shite Ducati to one with no engine issues, better quality paint and, let’s be honest in real world riding and the sort of riding 90% of us do all the time the difference in power is negligible... I’ve ridden them both back to back and IMHO the GSA I’m buying is far superior to the GS I currently own.....

Oh, and the suspension is the same on both bikes... It’s a 2018 model with all the same electrics, Dynamic suspension, TFT etc....
Again very little difference in real world riding terms.....

In real world riding terms, I think the 1250 is a significant step up over the 1200 (regardless of GS or GSA) - unless just pootling around.

Surprised that your insurance is twice the price. I'd shop around.

Before the 1250 I owned a 1200 GSA and my Urban GS and paid £300 for a dual bike policy. When I bought the 1250 (a year ago) my re-quote came in at over £1K... I shopped around for days, some wouldn’t even quote me. Ended up with a policy with Bemoto that still cost £590. Never had an accident, 48 yrs old, RoSPA gold rider, never claimed, Bike garaged with alarm, tracker, locks and living in a low crime area.....

I shop around every year, if I was just pootling around I’d buy a scooter. I go on a big (ish) trip every year. Have ridden m GSs all over Europe, took my 1150 GSA to Africa and regularly ride to Eastern Europe to visit family 2 up and the 1200 is just as capable as the 1250... IMHO the styling of the 1200 GSA is better than that of the 1250 GSA. The only difference is the engine, granted the 1250 is a better power plant - smoother and more economical but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired... Unless I just happen to get a Friday afternoon special...

Unless racetrack, and amazing rider, 1200 is plenty for Europe, my money will go to Denzo here, when I have some, for better shocks, that is all needed.
