Goldwing…….nearly

Or in the side pannier. My phone seems to last the day easily enough without the need to be plugged in.

But without plugging your phone in you don’t have CarPlay.

And I’m pretty sure you need to plug the phone into the top box as the USB in the pannier is for power only .

CarPlay runs from the pannier usb as well. If anything, it’s more of a faff to use the pannier usb for CarPlay than the top box.

I get around this by having a spare iPhone connected to the usb for the service, but appreciated it’s not an ideal option. I quite like the idea of an airbag but not sure how much good it will do in the event of a collision.

The Tour also has the airbag so loses the handy cubby hole that you plug your phone in to to keep it charged and use CarPlay.
On the Tour you have to plug your phone on to the USB point in the top box. Another faff.

Thank you. I did wonder about that and where a phone would go, if the airbag was installed into the tank area.

I guess that, unlike BMW, Honda have worked out that some owners, own phones larger than a postage stamp?

After my test ride, I did tell the salesman that I was pleased to say that I hadn’t tested the airbag function.

I'm a firm believer you know before you get to the end of the street if you're going to buy one or not.

My money is on Wapper's sticking with BMW. :thumby:

Don’t know about that.
I had a go on a manual bagger, then the bagger with topbox. Then a manual tour. Then the DCT tour, only then did it all make sense, and I was hooked.

Okay, I'll revise my prediction to he won't buy the model he test rode yesterday.

Not necessarily

I’m sure that after a couple of hours test I’d have bought one, that was my intention

But after four days with one I realized it wasn’t for us after all

I thought the airbag system on the Tour was an optional extra and not standard fitment ? AFAIK you can order a tour without the airbag and still have the tank cubbyhole/usb facility.

New to me Goldwing

Just treated myself to this Beauty this week, 2022 with only 102 mls on it, like the idea of fitting the Shad Top Box to it just for Touring, the panniers might be a bit small but hey just look at the Bike...

Welcome to the fledgling ukGSer Goldwing owners club!:thumb2

Has it got a centre stand fitted already?

Well to be honest, being a tight Yorkshireman the biggest hurdle was the cost of it.

Thanks for the welcome I am looking forward to doing many comfortable miles on it hopefully, but have heard the seat is not the best on these.
No centre Stand But I do have one on order, Next purchase will be the Shad 58 ltr adjustable Top Box I think.

I took the Tour DCT out for an hour and knew I wanted one, albeit non Tour as dont like the look and weight of the armchair on the back.

Ok, that’s surprising.
When I tried the Tour DCT, the sales manager at Dobles said the USB in the left pannier was for power only and it certainly doesn’t let CarPlay work on mine.Has to be via the cubby hole USB

Getting an actual test ride at all is a bonus these days - 4 days is rental or loan bike territory.
I tried a manual Africa Twin, took it back and said no.
Was asked if I wanted to try the DCT? "Nah".
Great looking bike, but no variation could ever touch my heart enough to get my wad out - Bit like a woman come to think of it.

After 13 years on 4 different R1200 GS's, I realised that they weren't for me.

I was told the same thing, although, tbh, I have never tried it.

I spent the past 3 weeks riding around Spain and the Alps using CarPlay from the left pannier. Dunno why mine works but it does - it’s a 2023 dct tour new from Dobles. Never tried it on my 2021 out of the pannier. The reason I tried it in the pannier was I got fed up with the cables tabling up with the contents of the top box.

Mines in for the latest software update today. It will be interesting to see if it will make CarPlay available wirelessly.

The Shad top box is a good addition. Mine is a 2020 model with the matt black body work so the Shad matched it straight out of the box. Arsey had his sprayed to match the same colour as yours.

A lot of folks online moan about the seat. The longest I have spent on the bike is about just under half a day at one stretch inbetween fuel fills, and tbh I had no problems with it. (But then again I have got a fat arse!)

Congrats !!

If you get the Shad and want to have the panel sprayed like I did, get the paint here

Worth doing I think
