Goldwing…….nearly

Thanks for the info Arsey.
Been following this Thread on the Forum for a few mths learning bits about the bike, and your posts on the Top Box are why I have gone for it as I think it suits the bike well.

Congrats !!

If you get the Shad and want to have the panel sprayed like I did, get the paint here

Worth doing I think

Gotta agree with that

Looks really good with the cover painted and the shape integrates perfectly with the bike, looks like it could have been OEM :thumb2

Just treated myself to this Beauty this week, 2022 with only 102 mls on it, like the idea of fitting the Shad Top Box to it just for Touring, the panniers might be a bit small but hey just look at the Bike...

Very nice - I'm sure I saw a similar bike last Autumn, a private sale from a guy in/near St.Ives Cambs. Then it reappeared at BMW Sycamore Motorrad Peterborough recently IIRC. Same bike??

I like the jeans blue, the later bagger colour has returned to boring. BTW, I see Reading Honda have a blue one with the Honda tour pack - surely the SHAD works better, at a fraction of the cost.

Whatever, enjoy the new ride.

I believe for ultimate passenger comfort a Tour is the best. My only other Goldwing was a 2001 which I bought specifically for 2-up riding with my wife. I got her started on the back of my R1200RS and after a few rides we left on a week long trip. In packing I positioned a large Drybag just right to serve as a backrest which she said really made the bike more comfortable.
She enjoyed riding so much that the next year I splurged on a Goldwing and together we rode it for 3 seasons. She loved riding on it because the comfort of the huge seat and secure feeling from the back and armrests. She'd sit back there with her arms on the rests just like lounging in an easy chair at home. There were little cubbies for snacks and a holder for water bottle, iced tea, etc. which she sat back and enjoyed while taking in the scenery..... while I piloted the bike. One time we ended up on a narrow, unlined road that wound up and down over 2 mountains that had just been paved. It was basically one 15-20 mph hair pin turn after another. At every turn most of the stone that was put along the edge was kicked up on the pavement by the cars rear wheels. As I was slowly working my way up the mountain I felt a bump at the back of my helmet, she had nodded off! I thought "I want to ride back there!"

But for solo riding, which is what I do now, all I want for traveling are panniers and maybe a Drybag and tent strapped on the rear seat and rack. I know many like rear trunks but I don't care for the looks and if I'm packing along extra stuff I want it as low and far forward as possible.

IMO a Goldwing Tour is the ultimate choice if doing mostly 2-up riding, or if you just like having a rear trunk. I believe it (non-airbag version) is far and away the most popular model here.
I look at the bagger, or non-tour, as more of a heavy weight sport tourer that can work for 2-up riding as well.
The way Arsey, and others of you, have your bagger set up is a good compromise. The rear box provides a back rest plus added storage, yet can be removed when not carrying a passenger.

I’m sure you’re right. But the Tour is a non starter for me as I don’t like the looks of it and my wife would simply not get on the back of one.

You are correct. I’m a bit disappointed. The ‘new ‘ map update is dated 2021 and that’s all I can see that’s different.

The 2024 model bike is getting a Wi-Fi hotspot, adaptive cruise control, wiring loom for front and rear dash-cam and recorder, and wireless CarPlay.

Which sucks after dropping a small fortune on the 23 model. Such is life I suppose

What they should do is make bigger panniers and fit a better sat nav.

Nothing wrong with CarPlay but bigger panniers would be better

The very same Bike as you saw. Yes I think the Jeans Blue is the best colour but then I would wouldn't I.

Android Auto

Does anyone know if "My Route app" will work on the TFT Screen with Android Auto

That makes the decision easy! You're both kinda young to be riding on a geezer bike like the Goldwing Tour anyway. :)

Larger panniers is a no brainier. They are tiny. I can see the allure of top loading however not sure how they would ergonomically make that happen.
