Well, I've done it now.......

I had a R1150GSA (well, I actually had 2, one after the other), and for reasons unknown I sold it (must have been a brain melt down).

I had been thinking of another GS, but thought I'd look at what else was out there, so took a MG Stelvio out for a test ride from a local dealer. After reading up on the web on the differences between the years, I started looking, and found a 2013 NTX for sale, in the best colour (black, the colour of PROPER motorbikes!)

Picked her up yesterday and rode home in the wind and rain. Gave her a quick wash today, and now hoping for a dry day or two so I can get out and properly bond with her.


So far, she's lumpy and raw, the way a bike should be IMHO, and she's big and heavy to push round.
But I think she's a keeper.... quicker than the R1150GS and handles well ( as far as I pushed her in the wet)
Might need to change the tyres to Michelin PR4's like the GS had.... I like and trust them in the wet.
The pirelli scorpions do not seem so planted in the wet.

Pal of mine had the Stelvio & I had a ride on it, lovely bike that handled very well. Loads of torque and comfy to boot.

Nice one Bubb. I had a 14 plate Stelvio for 16mnts and absolutely loved it. The only down side for me was that it did lack a little grunt on occasions.

I will definitely have another.

As an aside I have a finebau fuel enhancer for the Stelvio. They really do make a difference, drop me a pm if it's of interest.

Congrats on the new bike. I had 5 years of Stelvio ownership, I had 2 bikes (2009 and 2011 models) both very reliable and comfortable, bags of character as well. Make sure you change the oil with synthetic 10/60, and do it every 3000 mls, rather than the manufactures quoted 6000. These bikes are fairly easy to maintain yourself.
Workshop manual is available on line, as is parts book. I used Dunlop TR91 Trailmax tyres to good effect when the standard Pirellis expired.

I am currently in the market for my no 3 , the Bad Euro - GBP rates has stalled any
search at the minute , but i will deffo have another.

I had a 2009, the early bikes tend to get maligned, small tank etc. I really liked mine. The only issue I had was loose and corroded battery leads, the ECU does all sorts of odd things when this happens. Sounds silly but keep them tight and greased! You will NEVER have a final drive problem with the Stelvio! Enjoy it.

Guzzi gone


Well, I never really gelled with the Stelvio, and hated the low speed fuelling problems (how can any manufacturer get away with such poor fuelling at low speeds/revs?)

So traded the stelvio against a Tiger 800. Got offered just £200 less that what I bought her for against a low miles 2014 Tiger 800. Collected the Triumph yesterday, and am very happy with it.

I never really gelled with my 1150GS but at least I tried for 3 years. I can't believe you can know anything about a bike in three days of ownership.

Had the Guzzi more than 3 days.....long enough to realise it wasn't for me.
Better to admit I made a mistake, and let someone else enjoy the bike, IMHO.

But Im sure you know me better than I know me!
