Gone

I had a bike nicked from outside the house back in the 80's

The feds recovered it, crashed into a car on a drive many miles away.

As we arrived the scrote who nicked it had been caught by the k9 - teeth in the arse !!

said scrote got his brief to give a sob story in court on how he neded the bike ( my bike) to get home as he's missed

the last ferry to Portsmouth

Bleedin heart liberal magistrate, gave him a suspended...

All i got was no bike, and loaded premiums for the next 5 years!

Where is the justice in that???

The justice is he ended up in severe pain with scarring on his arse, a probable infection from the dogs bite and a great deal of pain, ask the car thief that one of my old dogs almost fully removed his right thumb and then bit in the scotum if he remembers and learnt more from his suspended sentence or his 6 week stay in hospital and reconstructive surgery

Well I'm due to go on a weeks riding holiday with my mates next month.

Decided now not to take my BMW. Going to take my Bandit 1250 instead.

I'm just not happy leaving it outside multiple hotels overnight during our holiday. So a £3k scrapper is what I'll take instead.

I love riding any bike, so who cares, but I'm not leaving £20k of my property in the street overnight.

Not a chance.

I could live with myself if that got stolen, but my BMW is my 50th Birthday Present to myself, so it means a bit more than just money.

Times haven't changed, just my feelings towards it have.

That is such a shame

Choose hotels with garages

You should mount a guard, armed with your dog piss gun and film it.

Take your bloody 1200. Lock it up (as you always claim to do) and you’ll be fine, I promise.

Where are you going for the week?

Take 5000+ police out if circulation, add in some dumass “too dangerous to pursue” laws and well this unfortunately is no surprise.

So sorry to hear this.

I got an air rifle and shot gun ... heaven help me if I catch any fkr toying with my sh1t.

Fuck no. He’s obviously going somewhere terrible.

Well it isn't a shame really, I'm still riding my bike with my mates on a weeks riding holiday :) (that's half the problem, they've booked 4* and 5* hotels and I would rather have stayed in biker friendly B&B's myself... but they've all got retirement money and want the high life).

The Bandit 1250 has toured with me before and is completely capable, albeit basic. But it's set up well and dirt cheap.

I know you won't agree, and think I'm daft/OCD/pussy, but my other half works in Vehicle Insurance Claims and I hear this shit every day.

I really don't want to leave my £20k motorcycle sat outside overnight.... especially the first night at a ferry port :comfort

Unfortunately, having a 'well it's insured' or 'it won't happen to me' or 'who cares' attitude is not the way forward for me. Again, knowing these machines are easy to steal and highly desirable I'd rather just leave it at home and ride my scrapper instead. If that get's nicked fuck 'em. I'll walk home and get another one :D

That is just unfucking believable.

Seriously, that probably takes the biscuit for the biggest load of bollox I have ever read on this site and boy, does some bollox get posted up on this site.

:D

Surely 4* and 5* hotels have garages, don't they?

I understand your angst, so why not take the Africa Twin?.................a Bandit, you can't be serious?

I did think about the Africa Twin, but it's on knobbly tyres and Tubed restricted to 80 mph.

Even if I put the road tyres back on, it's still tubed tyres and would be a nightmare if I got a puncture (as we're on a mileage agenda each day, so don't want to hold everyone up).

So the Bandit is always on Standby, road tyres, road set up, luggage ready. Good to go.

..... and we're only doing about 1000 miles in the week, so it's not huge mileage either.

My 1 week old GSA Rallye. Forced entry into garage by a gang that had targeted the bike. Gutted beyond words as my car was taken last year and I struggled to insure the bikes last time. 40 years riding... no idea why I’m posting this but go check your security - then add to it. You don’t want this feeling

Watching the Video and reading your post makes me feel sick, makes you wonder whether its worth it nowadays,

It is worth it, but you got to be prepared and not naive. Or think it doesn't apply to you because you're not in London.

With my bikes I think to myself, would I be happy leaving £20k of my own money laying in the street overnight. The answer is no. It's as simple as that.

I was always the same about my £4k mountain bike 16 years ago (one of the most expensive off-the-shelf pushbikes in the world at that time). I would not leave that unattended ever !

I don't care for my car like I do my bikes so that doesn't bother me.

Plenty of folk tour 1000's of miles on tubed tyres

Tyre levers, spare tubes and a compressor, won't take much space and you can fix a tubed puncture in 30-40 mins even at the roadside

Why have 2 bikes, worth £30k and be toooo scared to take them on tour?

One because it may get nicked and other because it has tubed tyres

I don't see the logic

Micky has done 130,000miles on a F800GS with tubed tyres and the times I have ridden with him on tour, abroad........ I don't recall him having a puncture and maybe he's never had a roadside puncture in 130,000 miles

I know he rode to Mongolia and the 'Stans and did 19000 miles across deserts and poor roads, on a 650 Dakar with tubed tyres and I know he never had a puncture in those 19000 miles

You do seem to worry a lot?

Is it old age?

Is it old age?

It's old age and not going out a lot any more :D

... I do tour.... on my Bandit 1250 :D

How come TeapotOne can tour around the world on a GSXR1000 and Simon Gandolphi tour the world on a 125cc Honda and get hailed hero's

But I get stick going 1000 miles on a Bandit 1250 over a few days :D

In your case, it would appear so

£30k's worth of bikes and being frightened to take them on holiday...so you take an old shitter

What do your mates say, have you told them yet?

My mates don't give a toss what bike I turn up on.

As one of them said not so long back to another mate (who passed on the comment). "Steve doesn't care what bike he's on, so long as he's on a bike"

Which is absolutely true.

I ride around 20,000 miles a year on my £30,000 worth of bikes and have a blast.

I'm doing 1,000 miles in a week on my old shitter, as a backup bike.

Sounds a fair ratio to me, what's the problem with that? ... and it's still fun :D
