New boy here and a brief intro. Finally got around to change my KTM 950 for a GS12 today .
Sad to see it go but had enough of the 60 mile seat range and comedy wind protection.
Pick up the GS12 first week march and having ridden the bikes back to back they couldn't be more different.
The KTM has the better performance , gearbox , dirt ability, noise(on Akros) and wheeliability.
The GS has the better brakes , seat comfort , wind protection and on road handling. The GS carries its weight better making the KTM feel top heavy and if you think a GS Adventure is tall .....You sit 'on' the KTM and 'in' the GS.

Great forum , very informative , hope I'll be able to contribute whenever possible

Welcome. I should probably go and test a KTM after what you've just said:)

KTM v 12GS

Funny that,my mate is going the opposite way,he has a 12GS and a 950KTM,but prefers the KTM so the 12 is going:D although he does have the gel seat.Andy

You didn't mention that the KTM also looks fantastic. If they made a MK2 version with road wheels , bigger brakes and more comfortable seat i would be tempted to swop my GS, but it looks like KTM wont as thats what the 950Sm is there for i guess ( apart from the seat)

Purely a matter of taste this. Personally I think the KTMs look gopping. The 12GS is no oil painting, being built inside-out, but I prefer it to the Austrian.

I like them both and if my free time, my money, and KTMs serviceability are improved I may get one, alongside the 12GS, of course.

Where are you getting it from Stu, and what colour?.

Picking it up from Cannons Chelmsford first sat in March , blue , black , black. Seems a bloody long way away !!

wecome Stu. Say goodbye to your sanity if you are going to spend time on here.

Glad to see you chose the fastest/sexiest/most reliable colour.

Yes I heard the the blue black black had better all round performance , though the yellow black black had a better top end. Couldn't have the Red grey black as they seem to topple over a lot .

I prefer the GS over the KTM 950 anyday for touring. But for fun and short touring look at the Superduke now we are talking.....................................:D

Yep thats mine at Cannons. Great fun bike but not any good for what I wanted.
Now the SM950 is a different matter and would replace my SM660 nicely , however SWMBO has decreed no more bikes this year :(
