I'm in the market for a new jacket and have been considering Goretex stuff. However when I was trying on a Klim jacket the assistant in the shop told me that it wasn't recommended to wear heated clothing under Goretex jackets as the heat may effect the performance of the Goretex

Has anyone heard of this, or can add any info

I'm no expert but have been wearing a heated liner and goretex outer for a few years now, without any issues.

I believe that goretex works by transfering moisture from the warmer side to the cooler, thus heated grips (if the theory is correct) may cause goretex gloves to work in reverse, allowing water in?

I have worn heated clothing under RUKKA gortex for the years and have not found this to be the case?

Think the sales assistant has got things arse about face- as above the problem arises when the outside is hotter than the inside, making the inside warmer by using a heated vest etc. won't affect Gortex's performance

Goretex needs three things to work efficiently.
Wetter on the inside than out.
Warmer on the inside than out.
A breeze over the outer surface.

As Decompressing so accurately put it.....they're talking bollox.

Ive been wearing a heated jacket and Rukka goretex this past winter and it performs beautifully.

"Wetter on the inside than out"

Would I be correct in thinking that you have got this arse about face??

Think maybe meaning type of moisture, fine vapour ie sweat can get out but larger drops don't get in. BTW heated seat can make goretex work in reverse too.

Absolute bollocks.

Were you looking at pro-shell? Tumble drying is recommended for these, I wonder how the twat in the shop would explain that :mmmm

So you have to be wetter on the inside of the jacket than the outside for the Goretex membrane to function?!?

Yup.
Put it another way....It needs to be drier on the outside than on the inside.

The temperature thing isn't an issue - coz you're wearing it, and I assume that you're warm blooded.
The breeze thing aint an issue coz you'll be either walking or riding or its the UK/Ireland and always blowing a hooley.
But........if the humidity outside the clothing is higher than the inside i.e. its pissing down - your sweat can't get out and you might as well be wearing a rubber mac.
Still waterproof but its not doing its Goretexxy thang.

- Edited for clarity

Ahhhhhh I get it.......... we're talking about letting the sweat out as opposed to keeping the rain out.

Thanks Mr Angus, I bow to your superior understanding of Goretex membranes. (I just can't help myself..... sorry)
