Mark, I've got the R&G crash bungs fitted on the bars at present and I'd like to keep them. Can you do me two longer bolts, (once I know the length), either as a swap or at extra cost?

yes mate, let me know what length you need (ooer missus) and I`ll get some to you.

Normal rules apply - no cheap sh1t red wine :D (or I can swap them pal :thumb2)

Final design

Guys, I know my original prototype design of a heel guard wasn`t most peoples cup of tea - that's fine and I will always respect the opinion of others :bow

but here`s the final design and a photo of the problem I was having as my boot was marking the exhaust and it was a pig to scrub off!

Bellypan arrived today, and will be fitted once the Evotech tail tidy arrives next week.

Mark my bar ends arrived today thanks, I've fitted them and will see what they are like on the way to work in the morning

Cheers Terry

Ok mate brill, let me know eh? They are towards the heavier end of the range but that's only to enhance noticeable improvement.

That enthralled eh?

I sweated blood to make that for you, Nuts................

How was the instructions? Quality? Service?

:D

It's very impressive! Unfortunatley, my mate isn't around to help me until next week.

So weights fitted and just done a test ride, motorway and A roads. To be honest I can't tell any difference. Vibes are still the same at exactly the same rev range. :(

I've now removed the R&G bar end crash bungs to see if they were insulating the heavier bar ends. Will test next week.

Well there`s a mystery.......... there`s lots of geezers who have said they have worked - not just for mine but others too - here`s a recent one for instance:

The bar ends arrived today, and I've fitted them to the bike.
The important thing is.......THEY WORK!!!!!!!!
Yes, any mild buzzing has now disappeared. The bike is now perfect, and as it should have been from the factory. It's only since fitting these that I realise there was a slight buzz, but not any more!

I have a theory (and its full of sh1te as most of mine are :D) This problem is not consistent and varies from bike to bike. There`s also evidence of this on the XR forum where some lads don`t notice anything and some others do, and that the vibes `come in` at different rev ranges  and my theory is that the vibrations are caused by how `loose` the engine is and consequently the frequency at which parts on the bike (bars for instance) resonate with the engine (which is manifested as vibrations). The idea of the bar ends is to change or move the frequency at which the bars resonate with the engine.

My bar ends work (I guess I would say that :D) and I bet I have exactly the same bike as iandavid - the only difference being how we have run them in (not that either of us has done anything wrong - with that said I tend to wring the tits off my bikes because as for my previous TC it bizarrely helped reduce oil consumption  but of course both engines are miles away from each other.

If this elusive issue changes its characteristics as the engine gets many miles under its belt I will start to think that it does have something to do with the tightness/looseness of the engine.

Naturally I expect

a) someone to say "Yup, bollocks again Hooton"
b) someone far clever than me :bow to give us all an answer to this.

But, to stay `pro-solution` I did hear about one fella who filled his bars up with lead shot and that worked.........

Guys mine has been given the beans from quite early on and has now got 5K on it so would say it's pretty loose

Mark, please don't get your knickers in a twist about this
1. My vibes after 1k were not bad before I tried your bar ends
2. As I said I've now removed the R&G bits as maybe they are acting as an insulator. Will test next week and will let you know.

If you're mounting something outside of the hand guards, I'm not surprised you're getting vibes. Aren't they designed in a wind tunnel?

Nutty even with the standard bar ends you get vibes, try this set your C Con to about 70 to 75 and use your finger and thumb to hold the very end of the bar/hand guard and work round to various parts especially the throttle side you will find the vibes are worse.
In my thinking if you have the R&G crash bungs it will take the vibe further away from the grip so should improve the feel for the rider.
I've tried heavier bar ends and that transferred the vibe to the brake lever which felt even worse, next step for me is the R&G bar ends.
So iandavid if you do decide not to use yours please get in touch and I could buy yours to try that option.

Terry

As I mentioned before you never get rid of high frequency vibes, you just move em elsewhere and obviously where they move to depends on things like are the engine mount bolts/bar clamp bolts torqued correctly and so on .
