You all read threads and if you do you know that my bike went in to Bahnstormers for a few bits and bobs and came out with.

New wheel bearings.
New Chain
New sprockets.

My ride home was punctuated by 2 things I noticed:

1. -2 deg c is cold enough for heated grips to have almost not a lot of effect.

2. How much smoooother the ride is when the bearings and chain and sprocket are not kernackered.

Im always quick to jump up and down and fly off the handle when things are not going my way or if I think im being treated less than fairly.

I very rarely comment when something has gone RIGHT , but this time I am doing so. Bahnstormers did admit there might be a problem with my wheel bearings/chain/sprocket especially as they were replaced only 1000 miles ago.

They replaced stuff they perhaps didnt have to. and for that a massive and well deserved thumbs up. Cheers Bahnstormer. Not so bothered about my tax disc going missing from my top box (YES it was definitely there , Dont think I;m losing my marbles yet)as it was cured by a 20 mile detour and another 20 mile ride home and the princely sum of £7 for a duplicate tax disc...........:augie

Once again Ta BS im well chuffed its back with me and appears to be running extremely well again.....

Long may it continue...:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:thumb2:thumb

Out of curiosity did they charge you for this Mark? Is your bike still under warranty. Reason i ask as my F800GS with only 7000 miles on the clock came out of its 6000 service and maybe its not related however i don't feel very confident with the front end, like a knocking sound. So tomorrow its going back for a new front tyre to see if its cured it and they said they will check it. No doubt i will get a huge bill as its BMW but will see i guess. Can't stand not having a perfect bike.

On topic the heater grips are crap! No way would i buy them if they were not already fitted. I have hand guards and the extra lips (no idea what the exact name is!) and still my hands get cold within a matter of minutes. No solution i guess. :thumb

Muffs from Val off here is the way to a solution, any heated grip will struggle in these conditions.:thumb2

I was exteremely lucky in that I bought the bike from Bahnstormers in the first place and when i did so they put a years warranty on it, so again lucky me nil charge, there is a related thread on faults with the F650 and the F800 GS. the search box is your friend. I am aware that certain models have had problems with the forks making a clonking noise, but i dont think it affects safety. Also your bike is still under warranty so I would assume you may not get billed. When you say that you have had issues with the front end does it feel like its about to tuck under and spit you off??? Tyre pressures have a hell of a lot to do with this, and i do know I had exactly the same problem as my tyres were both under pressure by about 5 or 6 PSI. I put the tyre pressures right and now i have absolutely no problem with getting it on its side if i really need to. With regards to the heated grips issue the real answer s to fit handlebar muffs, which will 110% keep your hands warm. my only problem with those is that at the moment i cant afford any, but when i do get mesen sorted out im most definitely gonna buy some . Get out there and ride the wheels off it. thats what im gonna do when i get my next day off, which will be Sunday, so probably a visit to loomies ,get some sustenance and then go for a blast.. Its soooo nice to be back on a bike again. I have to ride mine at least 3 or 4 days a week or i start getting all crabby and bad tempered, not that anyone would ever notice:hide:augie

To be honest i think i have a puncture anyway as last time i checked 3 weeks ago my PSI was 13. :blast Haven't checked since so no doubt its that. Anyway im going to get a nice bill tomorrow for a new tyre and hopefully walk away all happy. Mufffs great idea. I own a pair from my old SV 650 touring set, never used and dont really find them safe. If weather continues ill have my dad fit them at the weekend. :D Apart from that, Mark if your going to head down to loomies bud, let me know and ill come down as well as others no doubt! :thumb

Have you ridden it in the 3 weeks since you checked it at 13 psi? No wonder it feels rubbish!

I don't check mine every ride, but I'm pretty conscientious about doing it every other day or so - did you inflate it when you found it to be 13 or just leave it?

Sorry for the threadjack Mark!

Bahnstormers top notch place. :friday

got to agree there
i live 42 miles from them (84 mile round trip)
they have faultlessly done all my servicing and warranty work (2006 GSA 46k)
great bunch of blokes
they have made it very difficult for me to even consider going anywhere else :thumb2

Hiya Ben. Yes they are designed to run with more than 13 psi ,LOL ROFLMAO... send me a PM with a moby number in it and we'll square away Sunday and pin it down to a certain time thats convenient for both of us..

Cheers,

Mark

Well i did pump it up yes to the 32. I have ridden a commute everyday of about 50 miles, done about 400 since i pumped it up. So maybe i should check it. Oops ;/ Don't like doing it though, ill try to do it more often if that is the issue. Mark no worries pal will do it now!

Make your own and secure them in place with cable ties. I've seen them made from 5-litre (?) plastic oil containers and also from stiff canvas. I've also seen gauchos made from a high-vis jacket.

That's nice to hear as I've just bought a new F800GS from them (delivery end March).

P.S. anyone want a scabby old 115,000 mile R1150GS?

And I have just ordered my new 1200GS from them for early March delivery :beerjug:

I have been with them for over 4 years now after buying my 07 GSA new from the Alton branch and they are really good people.

Most of the guys at Bracknell started at Alton too,
