GPS mounting solved

Easier than I thought it would be.

1 sq RAM ball mount, piece of scrap steel plate and a dremel.

Cut and drilled the steel plate to same size as RAM mount. Drilled headlight/instrument cover and bolted together. Steel plate gives some extra strength to plastic cover.

And Fanny's your auntie!

Dead centre, just below eye line and even managed to hide the 2 miles of Garmin cable inside the cover also. Result.

Looks identical to how I mounted mine 2 years ago! Nice job.

My only concern is clearance between the mount and screen. There is a small amount but not sure what will happen when it starts flapping about!

Tobinators are your friend! They lift the screen up and back an inch or two. Plus, no more buffeting.

If it wobbles too much stick a thicker metal plate underneath it.

Tobinators don't come within my budget, and I don't have a big problem with the standard screen. A couple of small brackets to raise it an inch and push it forward an inch should be fine.

Did you wire it directly to the battery or use the Garmin lead via a hella adapter in the accessory socket???

I have mine on a 7/8" handlebar bracket thingy on the LHS but it was getting wet from road spray.

I'm looking for an alternative mounting/power soloution myself for my Nuvi 250. Those waterproof sat nav covers do the job but then the screen is very hard to see

For the moment it's just plugged into an aux socket near the clocks.
