Anyone tried the new 2.12 beta upgrade for the GPS V yet. Released 3rd March. Is it stable and worth upgrading to ?

GPS V

yeah I have, so far so good but haven't noticed any difference. Have you got the City Select v5 upgrade? Its free if you registered your set after Jan 03 otherwise $100 but you get all of Europe now

Cheers for the feedback - I bought the full European city select about a year ago already....well pissed off to hear it's free now !!!
You ruined my day :(

Euro City Select v5

received my upgrade disc yesterday and installed as per instructions. Went on line to get unlock code and entered my customer No.

Unlock code sent back, cost?? - £000.00!! well chuffed.

Downloaded map set to GPS and went out today to test.

Verdict - more maps into memory, 44 maps - 18.6 mb.
Quicker to download.
Improved routing and redraw on the move.
Better guidance at roundabouts, eg take roundabout to 2nd exit.

A worthwhile upgrade? I think so.

cheers

44 maps - 18.6mb.....that's an amazing improvement. How many were you getting before - I am only getting about 9 or 10 depending . As I live in Belgium I have about 2/3rds of the whole country in detail loaded in and it's full . You are using a GPS V too aren't you ?

I might have a word with Garmin because I got the unit with Zone Benelux/France and then bought the rest of Europe - if they are now giving it away I'd say that's a bit of a slap in the face for people who A) bought the unit earlier at a higher price B) paid for the unlock codes....I reckon I'll see what I can get from them.

Cheers

v5 City Select

been out with the set now and the maps are a lot better and have been updated with the newer roads/ road layouts - well in my area anyway.

I was very impressed with the service i got from Garmin, they even sent me two CD-Roms but unfortunately i could only get one unlock code.

Can you confirm the number of maps you downloaded.

I got a Garmin V this week and was quite disapointed that I was unable to even load all the maps required for London and the home counties in to it's 19 meg of memory.

At the moment I have managed to get 11 maps loaded.

If as you state things have some how been improved in the Mapsource v5 upgrade. I may be a bit more impressed with things.

fyi, I loaded the 2.12 beta upgrade and things all seem fine other than the issues above.

Map Download

41 map sections in 18.3mb.

Everything in M25 plus surrounding tiles.

Letchworth north down to Haywards Heath south.

Maidenhead west to Basildon east.

Obviously Central London area uses more memory than Central Wales. But I think the map data is more memory efficient in the new version.

Map efficiency

Yeah can confirm v5 is a lot more efficient. Just tried London area (not that i'd want to go anywhere near there!) and can get all of London within the M25, west to past Reading and east to Rochester & still only use 15.5 mb.

More important you can get northern england from south of leeds all up to the Scottish borders from17 mb.

I wrote an email to Garmin asking why new GPS V buyers get it free and loyal users (like me :D) who have been supporting them and promoting their products for a while already and have already bought additional unlock codes have to pay again.....I'm curious what they will say.
It sounds like they have sorted a few things out with the 5.0 release but I am surprised I couldn't find anything on their website promoting this major improvement.
