GPX - All the routes (OK some missing) and most of the passes

that's odd.

when i try and import the routes into basecamp, it tells me the file is corrupt, which i rather doubt as i've tried all of them in this thread :(

it seems it was created in mapsource. anyone managed to open it in basecamp?

Odd.

They were indeed created in Mapsource.

Though I haven't tried, they should just go straight in to Basecamp.

that's what i thought.

i next tried opening them in mapsource running on VMfusion on the mac, which worked. then converting to gpx files, which didn't.

next i transferred your gdb file over to my steam driven windows machine, which opened, converted and saved to gpx format (eventually). the gdb file was 39MB - gpx is 72MB

imported the gpx file back into mac and basecamp and it opens fine :)

edit: i now think basecamp is struggling with so much info. program is quite slow and unresponsive.

That is very likely.

When I add a new route to the original Mapsource file and save it, my PC goes into a deep sulk, sometimes churning for over 30 minutes or more whilst it sorts itself out. Sometimes big is not best.

i think when i come to use any of the routes i will copy the few i will actually need from your file, then paste them into a new file.

i think that might be essential anyway as there's no way i'd send that much info to my zumo

fantastic resource though :clap

it's a credit to you :D

I have downloaded the file but cannot import it, as Basecamp is saying the file is corrupt?

i had the same problem.

gimme a minute and i'll upload the .gpx file i created to import to my Basecamp :)

gpx LINK

try that.

i think Basecamp's preferred format is gpx and although it can import gdp files, it baulks at one that big. maybe? :nenau

I've got the same problem with Basecamp.

Cookie: I've tried your link but unfortunately it seems to be provide pages of script but not a downloadable file.

Has anyone managed to open this in Basecamp?

Thanks

so it does - it seems to download the file direct to the browser as text :eek

try this right click on link and choose Download Linked File. that's on a Mac, but i'm sure there's something similar in windows.

Can someone please explain how to convert a gdb file to a gpx file ?

:confused::confused::confused:

import gdb file into basecamp/mapsource, then export/save it as gpx.

Cookie - That did it - Thanks for the hint.

Wrapping - great work

Thanks very much for that file, it'll be very useful.

Is there any significance to the route colours other than the green ones were added later?

Kevin

No significance at all.

From memory, I did sometimes create little link roads to join routes up in a different colour and / or make an excursion off a set route (say to a known view point) a different colour. Mostly though they were just routes created at different times.

I still have a load of work to do on Scandinavia, Germany and the UK, which I will around to sometime. Spain, too.

In a perfect world, I would also like to re-create it all, removing the viapoint flags. That will have to wait.

Useful information, thank you :thumby:
In September a small group I am part of are doing an 8 day 2 hotel trip to Germany, the first 4 nights we're staying in Hullen a small town on the B 528 slightly North & West of the Nurbergring, if I were to ask (I hesitate ;)) for some recommendations for routes to keep us occupied and interested in this area for 4 days what would you suggest? I am not overly familiar with this area having mostly just passed through en-route to destinations further South.
We seem to be o.k. for routes for the second 4 days which is further South and slightly East of Offenburg.
Thanks in advance biker mate :D

Cheers Richard, I have taken your earlier advice and opened the big route file and copied and edited some of the routes to suit our location, I've also copied and saved some of the waypoints so we can make it up as we go along, it's nice to have the option of a route to follow or to join up the dots on the move, will most likely take along some of the ADAC maps too, thanks for the FIM link biker mate :thumby:
