I have been sorting out my library of German routes. With such a large country, it’s hard to know how best to organise them, but I’ve made a start anyway.

The Black Forest is a popular ‘Must do’ on these pages, so I thought I’d at least share those I have (so far at least) moved into one master folder. Yes, some will inevitably include the B500. If you don’t like it, tell your mum.

I have a load more but they live on an old PC, which I’ll have to crank into life one day. Before then, I’ve got to do the rest of Germany. I’ll be a while.

I've been meaning to post this for some time. We stayed in Freiburg for a week last year. This hotel was good value and close to a tram stop for access to the city. There was no secure parking but the car park was in full view of the reception and hidden from sight by a high hedge so pretty good really. We thought the breakfast was expensive but there's a supermarket on the other side of the tram tracks where you can get decent coffee and the usual selection of backerei grub.

Freiburg is a great city. Well worth a few days exploring.

I have found my old post from 2010:

These were created in my Garmin days, so are GBD files (created in MapSource) which MyRoute cannot open. I have though, as a sample experiment only, opened one using GPS Visualizer (which is free) so I know they still work:

GPS Visualizer can convert from GBD to GPX very quickly and easily. This I did and got the file into MyRoute:

Play around, you can’t break it.

UKGSer forum subscriber Mzokk has kindly batch converted the files linked to in post #3 for me.

I have downloaded them for myself and created a specific folder, which I am happy to share:

The ‘routes’ are saved as tracks. As sometimes happens, the tracks are not a perfect conversion, so you’ll need to do a little work on them. That said, very few people will use a third party route or track, exactly as offered to them. Any problems, ask away in the GPS section, please.

Motorrad Strassen magazine, which was due to close, has relaunched itself. It is now only available online (I get it via Readly) and has retained its association with Kurviger.

The January 2026 edition has an article on the Black Forest and the neighbouring Vosges. In all there are six suggested routes for the Black Forest and two for the Vosges. I have downloaded them all:
