This weekend sees Wapping blighted by the London Marathon, so I’ll be heading off and away.
Once again, it will be to north east France but doing something a bit different. For a change, I am going to leave the Chunnel at Calais in the late afternoon but, instead of heading south, I am going to go a little way eastwards, to just south of Dunkirk, taking the smaller D roads to to hotel I have plucked at random from the internet:

Day two, a return journey from the hotel, east to west to Wimereux, just north of Boulogne and back, taking some pretty small (sometimes unclassified) roads:

Day three, hotel to see la Coupole. I have lost count how often I have been past or close by the museum but have never been:

The, the museum ticked off, up to Cap Gris Nez, to stay at a very basic French cafe, where I have got to know the owners very well:

Last day, a short hop on Monday morning from Cap Gris Nez to the Chunnel:

In all about 340 miles, Chunnel to Chunnel, plus the 90 minutes to and from the Chunnel from home. Not epic but good enough to avoid some very rapid dark fellows, sprinting past my house.

Établi dans une magnifique bâtisse du XVIIIème siècle, Au Tonnelier se situe au cœur de la ville fortifiée de Bergues. Pour un séjour détente ou... - Au Tonnelier
