Greek islands and an old XT600

We book ahead, having specified times/dates that we must adhere to for ferry bookings.

However, for this trip it’s a bit of a moot point as a worrying blood test for my wife 3 days before our departure date has resulted in the need to cancel our plans, leaving us free for her urgent tests and scans which so far have been clear, but have provided more questions than answers.

We’ve re-booked for three weeks around France and Italy in September 🤞
Hope that all goes well

No confidence mostly....if I can't do what I used to be able to do, I'd rather not try. No sense in letting a decent bike moulder away, so it will need to go. I used to be a good rider, but old age doesn't come alone! Sad but fact of life...
That's such a shame Gerry. I know how you feel as the Drs have told me no more bikes and I had to sell a lot of them but hanging on to my Royal Enfield 350 which is a joy to ride.

I don’t think you’re done yet Andy, a few miles to ride still. Only issue is what to buy for next spring

@northernjock.

Thanks for the write up.

I have just caught up and read from start to finish.

I was away with the faries reading that.

Fabulous, what a trip.

Its now added to the bucket list.

That was a great read.
Years ago I spent a week on Samos, and every evening a local would roll up on a blue Xt600 while I was having dinner. Your trip has reminded me of that, and now I want a light trail bike and a holiday in Greece!

Lovely way to spend a quiet Friday evening, thank you for taking the time to write it up! Weirdly, I've had an email today from Vintage Rides ( I think) who have put together a tour of the Greek mainland for next spring. I was thinking Morocco for 2026, but this might just have changed my mind 😁

Blimey, you've just brought my memory back - to a village room in Crete in about 1986. Every evening we'd go to the only bar located in a tiny square. About dusk a chubby cherub would roll up on an XT with bags of spuds in a wooden box on the rear rack, carry them indoors and then emerge to be the waiter. Chips with everything came along after about half an hour ...

Just been rereading this inspiring ride report....such a wonderful and relaxed bimble through the islands, I shall be quizzing Alistair about the specifics of his travels as it sounds perfect for a small bike...

Well done!
