I'm thinking of taking a few days off and doing some riding off-road in the Midlands and was wondering if there are any areas (OS Maps) that could be recommended?!?!
Saves me hitting the wrong ones and wasting my very sparse days off.
Views prefered, medium sort of difficulty.
Any help would be much appriciated.

Hi Bickers, there are a few easier lanes in Leicestershire, OS maps 233,245,232 these ones can be done in about 6hrs, if you want something a bit more of a challenge and alot better views it has to be Derbyshire Peak District OL24, 259, you could easily do 2 days of lanes if your prepared to do some difficult ones aswell.

Can anyone tell me (and others) what the lanes are in the Peak district ??
Id gladly pay for thwe routes/maps etc. We have nothing here in North Lincs

Thanks all.

Peaks

If I remember rightly a lot of the lanes in the Peaks are not easy to identify from an OS Map, local knowledge is recommended.

Join the TRF and ring a Peak District local and I would say that they would be more than happy to show you round.

And if you want to visit Wales (Mid and North), give me a shout and I'll give you a day or two or three or four..... Oh and you won't need any money to pay me, it's free of charge.:thumb

Thats great Timpo. Actually going to Wales in 2 weeks for the Red kite (Crfx).
I just wish there was somewhere to practice on a bit nearer tho.
Ive been to the Peak a few times, but last year, and with guys i didnt really know.
They seemed to know their way round a bit, but ive lost touch with them really. (Id go back on my own if i could remember the routes)

Im actually making enquries about some private land near here to ride on. Ive involved the "opinions" of the local police about wether or not they can actually get involved/prosecute us for riding on the land. (unauthorised !)As usual , its VERY complicated.

Ive also phoned 3 secretaries of the more local TRF groups, to find out more info re legal routes etc locally, and to discuss perhaps joining the group.
Either they wouldnt answer messages left on their answer machines, or I just got the feeling they didnt want to help.
Given the recent bad press us bikers/off-road bikers receive, and the shutting of a lot of "roads" previously open to us, I can understand them being cagey but the group(s) just seemed like a "closed shop". They werent very welcoming at all.

Anyone like to comment . . . . ?? (especially TRF group members near here. North lincs)

Martin, you can't say fairer than that.
My offer still stands if you want a tour around Wales.
Our TRF group is no closed shop........

Hey, thats great guys. I shall be in touch in the next few days.
(Timpo. Are you doing the Red kite rally then ??)

A good mate of mine has been riding the Derbyshire lanes for a long while now and recently has set a part time company doing guided rides on all legal bye ways. He's a nice bloke too!

Link is: http://www.biketours-uk.com/catman/subcat/1/64/index.cms

Tell him Dave sent you.

Have I just read in that link...£100 per day?
That was the only price that I could find on the trail riding part in the link.

Timpo.
