Grip replacement

I'm looking to replace the handle bar grips on my 1200 GS '07 model and I was wondering what recommendations other's who had gone for non original grips had. The grips are warn but heating works perfectly, ideally I want something that is a bit more comfortable for long rides and off-road but long lasting as the next big trip will be Africa.

The two options i'm currently considering are either foam or ribbed grips but that's because I only just started looking.

Please share your experiences and part numbers if you have them.

The heating element is part of the rubber of the grip on 1200's, so if you still want heat, you're stuck with what you've got. Unless you fancy fitting aftermarket grip heaters and then the choice of actual rubber is up to you. I've put a set of Pro-grip "Rallye" on my 640 over grip heaters from Winding Roads, and they work really well. Don't know how much of a job it would be wiring them into the BMW switchgear, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly with an idea.

Mark is quite correct about the heated grips - I very nearly cut mine off (2010GSA) because I wanted to put some Renthal ones on. I double checked with a techy from the dealer and he confirmed that the heating elements are in the grip itself.

I've tried Grip Pupies, and they are comfy, but for me they're just too thick. Its like holding a scaffold pole! So I too am looking for something to wrap around my grips that is just that little bit squidgy.

I read somewhere that somebody had used racquet tape from a sports shop (Tennis / squash..?) to good effect. Maybe a bit of old pushbike innertube? I'm open to any ideas!
