Hi , can anyone throw some light on this annoying problem thats just appeared
on my gs 100.
A heavy vibration, which pulses through the bike, but stops when i pull the clutch in and coast along.
The only thing that I have done to the bike ,is to replace the tyres and rear shock.
Nothing has been done to the rear of the bike, but I,ve just replaced the steering head and front wheel bearings.
I have heard things can go wrong with the paralever, could this be the start???????
Eagerly awaiting your replies.

Just out of interest what are the options for supply of replacemnent drive shafts.

Check the rear exhaust mounting bonded rubber bobbin. Mine came apart (its not obvious when fitted) and I was convinced the driveshaft was on the way out.

Easy thing to check and eliminate before getting stuck into the expensive stuff :thumb

Bob.

I'd look at rear wheel balance, or tyre not fitted
correctly, if it is, in fact, a vibration.

Thanks Roger, thinking about it, the tyre shop didnt have a nut large enough to balance the rear wheel.
I wouldnt have thought it would have made such a huge difference.
Hopefully you have saved me a lot of time and money.
Thanks for all your threads, ill keep you posted.

rythmic vibes equals bad vibes

went out for a ride with the chaps to abergavenny today ,and before I got to usk, my bike told me the answer to the question I asked you all the other day.
A large rumbling and granching told me that my u/js had given up the ghost.
GULP.
looked in my manual, and replacement by a amateur mechanic looks daunting.
SO, can anyone recommend a decent replacement shaft, and could I do it , or is it a shop job.
WAITING for your glorious responses,
GUZZIALAN.

shaft

motorworks do a rebuildable shaft that is cheaper than a standard one .
easy enough job to change , do a search on here , there's plenty of posts covering the job . :thumb2

Ah, so there is a symptom... that's a relief. I'm not there yet, my 'puny' standard Basic at 40000 miles just hasn't channelled enough power through the UJs yet, I s'pose. Not like those hairy chested 100s.

Thanks for the symptoms, I hope you get it fixed for a reasonable price.

That Motorworks rebuildable driveshaft looks interesting, it's listed as part TRA00012A on this page. Interesting that "Due to the very robust universal joint bearings these drive shafts are slightly bigger across the bearing than the original and this means the drive shaft will only pass through the swing arm at an angle of 45 degrees. The easiest way to fit one is to pass the shaft through the swing arm away from the bike before connecting the driveshaft to the gearbox and the swing arm to its bearings." It's also cheaper than the standard new one.
