looking at a late gs1150...been told that the abs was disconnected at service....is this a wire only or would it be a unit removed....should i be looking for a vacumouse space where the abs/ servo was or a disconnected wire ...all advise appreciated...and why would you disconnect the abs in the first place?

usually because its failing as are many of the Servo units

a true fuck up by BMW in fitting this system as usual for them it was blinkers on and stroll right by and to hell with the customers

When it works correctly its a good system !

When it fails you trews will be so full of schit you won;t believe it !!!!

I have had a couple fail in different ways Either its Servo system going into residual mode and you have schite all squared brakes or it goes full power all the time (much rarer) and the ABS doesn;t work and it just locks the wheels

There's different ways of doing it but with Servo you need to repipe the brakes lines no matter what you do leaving out the servo and some people change the brake switches and some fit a relay and some just leave the module but remove the system hydraulics

i dont know havent seen it yet ...thats why i am asking what i should be looking for ....so its a good idea to disconnect the abs then ?

just seen a vid ....i now know if the servo removal has taken plce big area missing beside battery...but if abs has been disconnected is is a simple rewire job

we dinnae ken

without knowing how/if the ABS has been removed or disconnected it's impossible to tell you how easy it would be to refit. It's a personal preference when it comes to ABS. The servo system can fail so that may be why its been disconnected.

Depends.... on who's done the work, but if they followed the instructions in the video you've mentioned it certainly isn't a simple refit. If it's been removed using the method i use then yes, it is very easy.

In either case I don't think it should influence your decision since the way I see it these are the possibilities.
1. ABS removed (good riddance) enjoy
2. ABS not removed (remove it , good riddance,0$ cost, couple of hours of getting to know your bike) enjoy.

Brakes are more "normal" without it. I don't want to get into "you will die without ABS " discussion.
