GS 1200 24K Service

Can anyone advise me of what is involved on the 24k service?

Prices vary from dealer to dealer (Sth London want £450.00!!) and I can't even get it into them for at least 3 weeks!?!...When are Motorrad going to open a dealer on the south coast !?!

As I have no fault lights glowing or abs to worry about I'm thinking maybe I could taker it to a local independent?

I recently had mine done by SPC at Lower Farringdon near Alton, Hants. The 24K is the big service:

Changed fluids, filters, spark plugs. Checked/adjusted valve clearances. Balanced throttle bodies. Checked fault codes. Annual inspection. Test ride.

If the bike is under warranty, don't even think about using anyone else to do your servicing yet as it may invalidate it.

I think the main additions to the 24k service (in comparison to the 12k) are changing the spark plugs (4 of them), changing the gearbox oil and bleeding the brake system. There is no fuel filter change as on the 1100/1150's. As for the warranty, if the service is done as per the BMW schedule, then it won't invalidate the warranty if it is done by an independent. Have you thought about contacting Steptoe to see if he can do it for you?

Recent EEC regulations mean that as long as the mechanic is competent and uses parts that are as good as original then the warranty cannot be invalidated. I am sure there is a thread on here somewhere...
