After a bad experience a couple of years ago with a 2001 R1100SS ABS evo brake failure when I swore I would not buy another BMW am thinking of a GS!

I am looking for something comfy ( am 6' 2''), ability to tour and soak up the extreme potholes I regularly drive over. Also ease of servicing myself (I have rebuilt an R100RS before) as I am 2 hours from the nearest dealer.

A GS seems to make sense -I loved the R1100S's suspension - but do not want the same brakes (or £1000 bill to fix never mind loss of confidence in bike).

ABS was nice - but should I look for a bike without ABS or an earlier version of ABS.

I have a budget of up to £4.5k. So assume I should look at R1150GS's - any common faults to look out for bar service history and signs of accident damage?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Tom

They do exactly what it says on the box, travel for miles in comfort, have excellent brakes and handling, good lights, carry a pillion in comfort too, great range, waterproof/strong boxes, rugged build quality, the list goes on....

They are very heavy when loaded but you are long legged so no problem. They use oil more than some others. BMW labour rates are ridiculous, use a factory trained Tech and save loads...

They have strong secondhand values, loads of aftermarket goodies available..

Why am I selling mine?....

It's to tall!!
